World's Largest TV Measures 150 Inches

Panasonic previously held the "World's Largest TV" crown when it debuted a 103-inch plasma HDTV at the 2006 CES. However, this past January Sharp showed off a 108-inch LCD HDTV, snagging the crown by a measly five inches. Now Panasonic is set to return at the 2008 CES next month with a plasma HDTV that will measure a whopping 150-inches diagonally. If you do the math, that makes this TV 138-inches wide by 79-inches tall. That's nearly twelve feet wide and over six feet tall! No details on resolution, brightness, cost, but when you get to a set that large we're more curious about the non-technical details, like how much will the thing weigh and how will you keep the heat that will radiate off of the thing from burning your house down?

A TV that big just to watch commercials and re-runs of "Everyone Loves Raymond"? Thats NUTZ!
I wonder what the Electric bill is to run that monster too? I mean I love TV, but my 52" is just perfect and since everything in Electronics keeps changing every 6 months why spend $100K for a TV set?

I'm quite happy with my $600 8'x5' video wall projector... it may not be high end or hi-def, but for the price it's on a par with my 42'' plasma for all the different reasons I like.

T.V. Weight? Shouldn't be a problem unless you plan on moving it all the time. Just don't try to hang it on your wall.
Price? Odds are none of you will be able to afford it. Look for this at your local bar.
Heat? In a well ventaliated area it will not be a problem. My guess is that it will make an enclosed room 20ft by 20ft that was originally at 70F degrees reach 85F degrees after an hour. Do the math yourself.
Resolution? 1080p or lower obviously. Anything else would be uncivilized.
How tall is the model in the picture? Doesn't matter . . . that's not the picture of the 150 inch T.V. genius. That is a picture from the 2006 CES. The 150 will be shown next month.

I'm curious about the weight. The store I work carries the 103" Panasonic and that is about 485 lbs. The stand for the TV is about 240 lbs. Due to its height and weight, its hard to deliver. I can't imagine what a 150" TV will weigh and what problems that will cause.

That thing would take up my entire wall and I wouldn't be able to go through the door to the bedroom.

A High Def Projector is the only way to go. Now thats a real TV. Forget the LCD/Plasma stuff. Once you go projector you'll never want to watch TV any other way. Nothing like a 120" screen 5.1 audio surround sound in your TV room.

This is a sad example of just how egregious people can be. What is the point of using up the earth's valuable resources to produce an over-sized television set? A new low for mankind...
