Typewriter Mistaken for Bomb, Shuts Down Street
This may sound like a joke, but trust us, it's true. In Sarasota, Florida, streets were closed after a typewriter was reported as a suspicious package. And while many of us may not remember what one of these pre-PC word processors looks like, the senior citizens in Florida should have no excuse. In the spirit of complete disclosure, the typewriter was inside its briefcase-like carrying-case and stashed in a locked cage under a stairwell in a county parking facility. The package was doubly suspicious since the only people with access to the cage would have been county officials.
Following standard procedure for a post 9/11, terrorism-obsessed world, the local bomb squad was called in. It proceeded to detonate the typewriter, then discovered it was just a typewriter.
Check out the gallery below so you, too, don't mistake an ancient writing tool for a weapon of mass destruction.

I have always enjoyed super-gluing and quarter to the floor to see how many people will bend down to pick it up and not be able to. It's funny to watch!

Just a comment. A typewriter case nowadays (stowed away somewhere especially) is suspicous. Anything could be inside of a package of any kind at any time, that's not being suspicious, just reality. A homeless person could be carrying around a laptop bag but that doesn't mean a laptop is inside, it could be their food, clothes, a critter...
When was the last time you saw a typewriter case? I saw a few several years back, but that was because we were cleaning out my packrat mother's house!

For all of you that have nothing but nasty things to say I hope that you or no one that you love is ever the victim of a terrorist attack. the Sarasota police department is there to protect us and that is just what they were doing. Oh and at the risk of sounding old, remember the old saying "I'm rubber and your glue, everything you say bounces of me and sticks to you", I guess you all are truly covered with assholes!!!!!!!!

there comes a point in time when you must be rational. The cops went way over. it was locked in a county compound.
We cant call the bomb squad everytime someone finds a brief case or a purse. yes anything can have an explosive device in it. so what. who is paying the bill here. you people seem to think that the cops should be deployed no mater what. well i have news for you all, I would rather be blown up than work my entire life to pay for stupid panicky people and the billions of dollars to hire enough people to keep us safe.
how many of you call the bomb squad to look under your car so you can go to work everyday. i dont care what you say, it was stupidity all the way. This is by far not the first bit of stupidity and the sarasota police force did not invent the stupidity. All of you paranoid azz wholes are the problem. TAKE A VALIUM and go back to sleep.
