'Lust, Caution' Sets Off Frenzy of Virus and Anti-Sex Warnings
It wasn't all that long ago that director Ang Lee was opening eyes and pushing boundaries with 'Brokeback Mountain,' a film about sweaty cowboy man love. Now he's back with another controversial film, but this one's stirring up a different sort of controversy, this time in China. The hullabaloo features an interesting mix of warnings from a variety of sources, including both physicians and computer scientists who are all urging caution in viewing the film.
The first warning appears to be intended to stop Chinese computer users from downloading illegal copies of the film. A Chinese anti-virus company is saying that those copies of the film that can be found online come with a virus. The firm isn't detailing just what virus it is, but says the virus contains code to snag user passwords.
The second warning comes from Chinese physicians who warn that the ... erm ... extreme sexual positions demonstrated in the uncensored version of the film (which is seven minutes longer than the heavily censored version shown in China) rely on "abnormal body positions." They advise that only women with "comparatively flexible bodies that have gymnastics or yoga experience" dare try them, or risk "unnecessary physical harm."
We're not sure how much of these examples are sound warnings from concerned experts, and how much is a sort of combo smear-campaign against both illegal downloading and illicit films. We here in America think that if you're planning on seeing this film -- and we don't recommend it since it's likely to be an illegal copy -- you should fire up your virus scanner and either do a few stretches, or call up that gymnast you dated in college.

I have long wondered why human sexuality is so taboo in the U.S.A. while violence, blood and guts are on the TV screen virtually every day.
We don't know how to please the opposite sex in bed but we sure as hell know how to kill people for little or no reason!
I am not interested in seeing this movie unless it has educational relevance. I provide sexual therapy to couples who haven't a clue how to please each other in bed. Yes, you too can achieve an orgasm if your partner has that goal at the top of his list! Do they teach that as parents? Do they teach that at school? Do they teach that in the boy's locker room? Where can you go to get the true information on what the other sex responds to in the way of sexual stimulation? It sure as hell isn't the usual "Wham Bam 'thank you' Maam!", from the two minute wonder man!!! That's the guy who might benefit from seeing such a film. Think about it. Q. How many couples split up over sexual problems but never admit it? A. Most all site "irreconcilable differences"; how many of them actually tried to reconcile? How many of those people do you know? I know the answers but I'll bet most of you don't. Yes we live in a sick, sick world. Murder and mayhem are on the menu but to learn about a normal human need is taboo! Now THAT is what's sickening humanity, almost world wide! Don't bother responding, I won't be waiting. I have a full schedule today, thank you.

Our Social,Sexual and Family values have gone down the tubes!! Sexual crimes have increased against women !! The movies and tv on a daily basis shows women being abused. They have created copycat killers and sexual abusers. Young boys grow up thinking it's our way of life.
For example this week three boys ages 8/9 raped a 12yr old girl. Unheard of in my generation.

THE MOVIE IS ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL I'VE EVER SEEN-SEX OR NOT. THE SEX SCENES WERE VERY INPORTANT TO THE STORY. ALTHOUGH I WAS QUITE UNCOMFORTABLE IN THE BEGINING WITH ONE SEXUAL PART IT WAS NECESSARY TO EXPLAIN WHAT WAS TO FOLLOW. IF YOU CAN SEE IT DO SO. THE MAN IS A GENIOUS.

It never ceases to amaze me that people can get incredibly upset over the portrayal of sexuality in a film...but the portrayal of graphic violence is just fine even for children to see. To me and others like me...violence is the true obscenity, and sex is a beautiful expression of humanity.

Woo Hoo! New positions.. Yes !! That might cause bodily harm.. I cannot wait to see this one!

Ilianj and Jim Hart...
I couldn't agree with you more. It really is too bad that the Fundie Prudes that dominate most of America and the Far East don't understand that the real concern for children to watch and copy is VIOLENT BEHAVIOR, not human sexuality. Rape is a crime of violence, not a crime of sex...so if rape is increasing among children [as one poster said], it is because this type of violent crime is all too prevalently displayed in films/television. I'd rather have my child see people screwing any day over people harming and killing each other...

I'd see it, I like film with history to it...and sex has been part of history since before Cleopatra, maybe not graphic but do you really think people like Culigua and all those orgy infested Roman palaces were sedate? Then in France we had Marquis de Sade, even some of his "sex-ploits" were laughable and he was blamed for far more than he was guilty of..I agree clean up Television, let adults decide if they are mature enough to see a film.

looks like an amazing flick... engaging. Why won't it be released in the US???
sex is a part of life, love... why wouldn't it be a part of the movies we watch?
GregNov 21st 2007 3:08PM
Wow! Looks like it's going to be an amazing film. Can't wait to see it! Ang Lee is brilliant at what he puts into his movies. And some of you people really need to lighten up. Sex is what got you here in the first place! It's not unnatural nor is it uncommon. Good grief if you can do it you surely can watch a short sexual scene in a movie can't you? I'm sure you haven't been that sheltered all your life. I would much rather watch a sex scene than watch a scene with blood and guts splattering everywhere. Especially if it is tastefully done.

If you have children and are afraid they might see violence or sex on television you can buy a V-chip. To "clean up television" is an unrealistic and idiotic goal. Additionaly, who should be trusted to "clean up television"? The Government? The network?
First of all the Government can't be trusted with even the slightest increase in their scope or power, unless you're okay with the government spying on you, and taking away your freedom of choice.
Secondly the networks aren't going to clean up their programs until more people who watch their programs want it that way than don't.
Thirdly, why is protecting people who don't want to be protected (i.e. people who like that "junk") more important than free choice? If you don't want to watch it don't, if you don't want your kids to watch it don't let them. Quit complaining. Go do something more constructive than denouncing people who like to watch sex, or like to see those gory, violent movies, or people with "bad taste"
P.S. Lizzychan you hit it dead on.

....If your having problems with the sex scene, you will have problems with sex in your very own life...Guerro is prolly gay...but yea i couldn't/didn't relate to the whole story of broke back mountain, since i am not gay, however the movie was done very well and it was real, poignant, sad and a little depressing......but movies FOR ADULTS are supposed to elicit emotions...my kids didn't see BBMountain and they are over 18....when they think they'll want to see it they will...
