Elderly Amish Man Caught on Film With Prostitute, Blackmailed
When a 75-year-old Amish widower slept with a prostitute, he -- we feel certain -- felt pretty bad about it the next morning. As if that guilt weren't enough for the old man, the prostitute and her boyfriend demanded $67,000 from him, claiming that they had filmed the scene with wall-mounted cameras and would upload the recording to the Internet. The pair was later arrested and, we can only imagine, the Amish man abhorred technology more than ever.
Bank Robber Gets Away With the Help of Craiglist
In October, a bank robber -- wearing a safety vest, blue shirt, face mask and goggles -- eluded police with the help of Craiglist. Just outside the bank, while the robbery was in progress, stood a group of men who were responding to a Craiglist day labor opportunity. As the advertisement required, they were all wearing safety vests, blue shirts, face masks and goggles.
Nude New Zealander Arrested After Responding to Fake Sexy Text Message
Late in 2007, a Wellington, New Zealand man received a racy text message from two anonymous "ladies," giving him only an address and a request that he show up naked. Well, he indeed showed up naked... at the home of one appalled, unsuspecting New Zealander. Both the nude Romeo and the sadistic texter were arrested, though neither were prosecuted.
Fake Craiglist Ad Costs Man Most of What He Owns
Last Spring, a post appeared on an Oregon Craigslist board stating that the owner of a specific house was leaving all of his worldly possessions (still in said house) to whoever wanted them. When homeowner Robert Salisbury rushed home -- on a tip from a woman suspicious about the offer of a free horse -- he found his house being ransacked by 30 strangers. We suggest he take that horse and collect some vengeance Clint Eastwood-style.
17-Year-Old Jailed for Stealing Virtual 'Furniture'
When a 17-year-old Dutch boy hacked into several accounts on the Second Life-style site 'Habbo' in 2007, the the law got involved. The boy was discovered to have stolen $5,800 worth of virtual furniture and knick-knacks. Apparently, crime -- whether actual or virtual -- does not pay.
Phishers Going After Your Phones in New 'Vishing' Trend
Over the past year, sneaky spammers have begun to forsake the worn-out territory of e-mail in favor of cell phones' fertile frontier. The result? "Vishing." Get it? Voice mail phishing. It might be more ominous if it didn't sound like a James Bond villain saying, "Wishing."
Burglars Break Into Restaurant, Steal HDTV, Leave Money / Food Behind
Around Halloween of last year, a truckload of thieves drove into -- that's right, into -- a Pennsylvania Mexican restaurant, where they -- apparently uninterested in the cash register -- stole a mid-grade 47-inch HDTV and fled the scene. We've all heard about how this generation is lacking in ambition, but this generation's thieves, too?

It's about time! Texting is a distraction while driving and indeed should be outlawed in all states and cities!! Now if we can get the applying makeup while driving and the shaving while driving laws in place too, it can be safer on the roads for all to drive.

I think it is a great idea. In the town I live in last year 2 teenage boys lost their lives while the driver was texting his friend. Sad and preventable.

I witnessed one in the lane beside me working text. She veered over into my lane and I had to honk my horn to avoid a collsiion. A few seconds later, the light ahead was red and she rear ended a stopped car. I made it a point to stick around and be a witness for the police report.

You know, its kinda sad that we even have to make laws that dictate common sense. Texting while driving, especially in heavy traffic, is just plain stupid, and yet here in L.A., I see it all the time. I also see people driving, while juggling the cell phone in one hand, and the Starbucks cup in the other! Jeeze!

From the way I see the cars move around on the streets and highways with drivers on cell phones, texting or otherwise, it is hard to tell if it is a drunk driver or a person using a cell phone. One of the reasons most police officers aren't ticketing these people is because they are busy on their own cell phone while driving.

I think cell phone use while driving should be illegal.I have to ride to work with someone who does this often, bacause I dont have a license, because of a dui.At least when I was DUIing,I tried to concentrate on the damn driving, not what someone was saying on the phone. What in the world did we do without these damn cellphones? How did we survive?.....

I have my cell attached to my sun visor with speaker phone on. When it rings it takes me less time to push one button then turn my wipers on.

When will people get it. You can multi-task, but you can't multi-function. So, please stop talking on cell phones and texting.

Texting while driving should be a ten thousand dollar fine and 90 days in Guantanimo.

OK Don, and while you're on the phone (hands free I'm sure)where is your attention focussed? I'll bet on the conversation and not the driving.

Well, yes that is not too outrageous. I think people are paying more attention to their phones than the multiple hundred pound cars around them that could kill someone. I have read that some people are like about time. Well as a cell-phone owner I do not see how people are texting while driving anyways.Or how about this, outlaw cell-phones period, then we wouldnt have to worry about bombs being set off on airplanes or rude people who wont give you their order and holding up the line becuase they aer talking on their cell phones. This is a great idea. LETS GET RID OF CELL PHONES. PERIOD. AND THEN THERE WILL BE NOT STUPID LAWS THAT HAVE TO BE INDUCTED TO HELP KEEP PEOPLE SAFE ON THE ROAD AND IN THE AIR!!!!

How stupid can you get to be t'xing and driveing at the same time, maybe cause a accident or killing some one. Just like women putting on make up and driveing at the same time, there should be a ticket for that too.
The ticket where I live will be near 100 bucks when the law goes into effect on 1 Jan....

Ok, it seems logical to not text while driving. How about eating, drinking, putting on make-up, lighting a cigar/cigarette, surfing the internet, watching a movie, having a screaming kid or multiple screaming kids that are throwing toys, drinks, etc.? If you are going to make a law about cell phones, these other issues need to be addressed as well.

YOU CAN ANSWER YOUR PHONE SENSIBLE WITH THE EARPHONE, OR SPEAKER PHONE ON AS THE CB OPERATORS, GET YOUR BUISNESS TAKEN CARE OF BY TELLING THEM YOU WILL CALL THEM BACK LATER, BUT THE CB'ERS HOLD THE MIC AND TALK WHILE THEY ARE DRIVING. THE ONLY WAY YOU WOULD NOT CALL BACK LATER IS IF THEY WERE CALLING YOU IN A EMERGENCY. CELL PHONES ARE GOOD TO HAVE, BUT WHEN U TAKE A CALL IN TRAFFIC, USE COMMON SENSE, AND GET OFF THE PHONE PRONTO. CB'S CAN BE JUST AS BAD. PASTOR BERNARD L. PARSONS SR.

Just this past summer, I lost a biking buddy to someone who was text messaging. My buddy, his wife and their son were on separate motorcycles, approaching a 16 year old young man....the 16 year old, turned right in front of them. There were 3 identical skid marks (showing how close they were when he turned in front of them)...then impact. It wiped out the pickup truck the 16 year old was driving, killed my buddy, his wife also hit the truck and was severely injured and their son was fortunate, after hitting the truck, he sustained only some significant road rash. After investigating, the police found that he had been text messaging at the time he turned in front of these 3 people, but to make it even worse.....he wasn't even to be driving without a licensed adult.....but his mother told him to take the truck and go. YOU CAN NEVER PAY TOO MUCH ATTENTION WHILE DRIVING!!

Any one who is behind the wheel of a moving vehicle should be ticketed for using a cell phone. There is nothing more irritating then to follow behind one using a phone, they miss the green go lights many times and you have to honk. They are not paying attention to anything around them, and they are an accident waiting to happen. This should be outlawed in any state regardless of age.
