Cell Phone Blamed for Train Death
A man in Berkeley, California was struck and killed yesterday while crossing the train tracks on foot. Witnesses say that he was distracted by talking on his cell phone, resulting in the accident. The man stood by the side of two sets of the tracks waiting for one train to cross, then immediately stepped out onto the tracks and was struck by a second train passing in the opposite direction. This sounds disturbingly similar to an incident in Ohio we reported about in August. There, a teen was texting on his cell phone and did the same thing, crossed the tracks behind one train only to step in front of the second. He survived, his injuries far less severe than those apparently suffered by the Berkeley man.
If you're crossing the train tracks, we think it might be a good idea to put down the cell phone, pause that iPod and take your ear-buds out, and close the lid on your Nintendo DS before you take the risk of becoming the next to be featured in a post like this.

The article states... "If you're crossing the train tracks, we think it might be a good idea to put down the cell phone, pause that iPod and take your ear-buds out, and close the lid on your Nintendo DS before you take the risk of becoming the next to be featured in a post like this."
I say... It's also a good idea when you're driving!

It isn't the cell phones fault or any other reason other then just "NOT" watching where you are going. The name calling isn't necessary either. I agree to many drive while talking as well. BEST to keep the talking while not in motion for the safety of everyone.

Everyone is righ. It is not the cell phone it is the users of the cell phone. It doesn't matter what country you come from. It is how much since you have. If you can not use the phone and perform your daily routine without causing yourself or someone else to get hurt. STAY OFF THE CELL PHONE!!!! IT IS COMMON SINCE WE ARE MISSING HERE!!!!!!

This has happened in Lodi California before Cell phones were ever invented. More than once this has happened along with people trying to beat the train in the late 70's and in the 80's between galt and Lodi. QUIT BLAMING EVERYTHING ON CELL PHONES AND TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR OWN ACTIONS.

I think it's funnier than hell. Everybody says "Oh the Government isn't doing enough to keep people safe! Boo Hoo!!!" But honestly, We have to make our own decisions. And if you're going to play in a dangerous area without paying attention, then hopefully you won't be around to pass your genes to the next generation. The Gene Pool doesn't need a lifeguard. It needs a good cleaning!!!!

I agree with about 98% of the couple posts that i wrote and I dont think that they should ban the cell phone, just make sure that people arent distracted when crossing train tracks, driving or whatever they may be doing just make sure they are paying attention to what they are doing and their fricken cell phones.

i meant to say the couple of posts that i read, not wrote.... and that they shouldNT ban the cell phone
ruthDec 23rd 2007 6:41PM
no I don't think so. You can hear a train over a cell phone no matter how distracted you are. I spent many years crossing a train track and I guess I was lucky. Not to mention you have big flashing lights right in front of your face and you can't miss it.

I am a school bus driver, and everytime I see a stupid move by a driver I look down in their auto and see them on the phone! What happened to house phones and making your calls there? We have taken this cell phone stuff too far now and I already had a truck take off my mirrows on my bus, and he was trying to dial his phone, Can't we survive without it???? like we used to? Its not worth anyones death now is it????????

CELL PHONES USED IMPROPERLY CAN BE HAZARDOUS TO YOUR HEALTH, AND THE HEALTH OF OTHERS... pay for the service you expect and deserve, and get rid of that which you do not.
