Elderly Amish Man Caught on Film With Prostitute, Blackmailed
When a 75-year-old Amish widower slept with a prostitute, he -- we feel certain -- felt pretty bad about it the next morning. As if that guilt weren't enough for the old man, the prostitute and her boyfriend demanded $67,000 from him, claiming that they had filmed the scene with wall-mounted cameras and would upload the recording to the Internet. The pair was later arrested and, we can only imagine, the Amish man abhorred technology more than ever.
Bank Robber Gets Away With the Help of Craiglist
In October, a bank robber -- wearing a safety vest, blue shirt, face mask and goggles -- eluded police with the help of Craiglist. Just outside the bank, while the robbery was in progress, stood a group of men who were responding to a Craiglist day labor opportunity. As the advertisement required, they were all wearing safety vests, blue shirts, face masks and goggles.
Nude New Zealander Arrested After Responding to Fake Sexy Text Message
Late in 2007, a Wellington, New Zealand man received a racy text message from two anonymous "ladies," giving him only an address and a request that he show up naked. Well, he indeed showed up naked... at the home of one appalled, unsuspecting New Zealander. Both the nude Romeo and the sadistic texter were arrested, though neither were prosecuted.
Fake Craiglist Ad Costs Man Most of What He Owns
Last Spring, a post appeared on an Oregon Craigslist board stating that the owner of a specific house was leaving all of his worldly possessions (still in said house) to whoever wanted them. When homeowner Robert Salisbury rushed home -- on a tip from a woman suspicious about the offer of a free horse -- he found his house being ransacked by 30 strangers. We suggest he take that horse and collect some vengeance Clint Eastwood-style.
17-Year-Old Jailed for Stealing Virtual 'Furniture'
When a 17-year-old Dutch boy hacked into several accounts on the Second Life-style site 'Habbo' in 2007, the the law got involved. The boy was discovered to have stolen $5,800 worth of virtual furniture and knick-knacks. Apparently, crime -- whether actual or virtual -- does not pay.
Phishers Going After Your Phones in New 'Vishing' Trend
Over the past year, sneaky spammers have begun to forsake the worn-out territory of e-mail in favor of cell phones' fertile frontier. The result? "Vishing." Get it? Voice mail phishing. It might be more ominous if it didn't sound like a James Bond villain saying, "Wishing."
Burglars Break Into Restaurant, Steal HDTV, Leave Money / Food Behind
Around Halloween of last year, a truckload of thieves drove into -- that's right, into -- a Pennsylvania Mexican restaurant, where they -- apparently uninterested in the cash register -- stole a mid-grade 47-inch HDTV and fled the scene. We've all heard about how this generation is lacking in ambition, but this generation's thieves, too?

That's not the only phishing scam on MySpace, I got a fake youtube clip on my comments, and when you click on it, you are also redirected to the same fake login page where you enter your info and someone steals it. My anti-virus software is really good, thankfully, and caught that it was a fradulent page.

When my friends get hacked, I usually get this kind of post from them as a comment or as a bulletin. The way to not get hacked is to not download those modifiers or whatever else they hustle.

The same people pop up late night on craigslist under the free stuff section offering $500 cards to Rred Lobster and Olive Garden. That's a month's worth of dinner for the average person, EVERY NIGHT if it were real...

To take precautions, whenever you're faced with a page that wants you to log in again, look and make sure your browser says the web address is something with "Myspace" in it..

Nobody (absolutely NOBODY) gives away anything (absolutely ANYTHING)free on the internet. ALL con games depend on the same thing: somebody is tempted to believe they will get something for nothing. CHUMPS! (I'll say it again: CHUMPS!)

this is just aol trying to trash a competitor, shame. there's garbage like this everywhere, why doesn't aol report the crap that goes through their own system? in fact, why does aol insist on putting out celebri-news and entertainment press as news, in the guise of real news. typical corporate self interest at the expense of the public interest, i'd call it.

I've had this junk in my bulk mail for years. It's not just Macy's offers, they use J.C. Penney's and others as well. Don't fall for it. ;-}

Scams are everywhere on the net, I say that because,I was recently a victim, I had clicked on a work from home business opportunity and boy, did I get a response, this guy had actually shipped me by UPS 4 postal money orders in the amount of $875.00 a piece, OH!, And of course he had specfic instructions to take them to my personal bank to cash them and imediately go to nearest moneygram and mail 90% of the money to 2 seperate addresses he had emailed to me.HA! Imagine the disbelief and the gall this person has, I knew that this was a scam, the BLANK postal money orders were of course fake! I am not new to this world and by God , I hope he never sends this bull crap to anyone else ! He was very persistant with his emails and even sent one saying the FBI is coming and I will be caught!!! I hope and pray that they catch this man, the whole thing was so phony it reaked!! So people beware what you click on , I mean to send someone blank postal money orders with instructions , HA! TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE!!!
