Boy Hires Hitman to Kill Parents After Losing His PlayStation Priviledges
Saying this makes us feel a bit old but: What the hell is wrong with kids these days? It used to be that youthful acts of rebellion involved a piercing or running off for a day -- not hiring a hit man to murder your parents. 16 year-old Cory Ryder was grounded from playing his PlayStation or watching TV for weeks due to his inability to do basic things like not steal, go to school, and avoid getting arrested. After stealing $45 from his sister and getting into a heated argument with his parents, he was kicked out of his house, but not with out first threatening to have his family killed.
His mother tipped off the police, who sent out an undercover agent to pose as a hitman. Cory offered the officer his father's truck as payment and is quoted as saying, "Two bullets is all it takes." He is now in custody awaiting trial in a Maryland court.

This young man clearly has some anger management problems. A hitman to kill his parents, WOW! What ever happened to telling grandma that mommy didn't let me do what I wanted to do? Parents today have a task ahead of them because there are so many evils in the world and with so many advancements in technology, it seems that it's only getting worse. We have to be parents and not friends to our children. The rod is not always the answer, but when used properly it is a very effective tool. Take away priveleges and give responsibilities. TV, video games, parties, cars etc. are not rights but priveleges. One of my uncles once said the only responsibility his children have are to be good students in school, better citizens and most importantly obey his rules. He may not be perfect but he has point. Most kids today have no respect for authority.
kristen @ Nov 6th 2007 6:54PM
no jen, kids dont get ideas of killing their parents through a video game. maybe they have more violent tendencies as a result, but any child who would have his parents killed has some mental issues.
J @ Nov 6th 2007 6:59PM
and it's privileges...not priviledges...maybe too many people are playing video games and sending out hits on their parents instead of learning to spell...
WC221994 @ Nov 6th 2007 7:17PM
Thanks for the correction J. I always thought these blogs were a place for the issue at hand, not personal attacks. I guess I wasn't paying much attention to that word in grammar school. Too many video games I guess. Seriously though, this kids problem lies much deeper than him being punished. And maybe some people have too much time being sarcastic jack@$$e$ rather than paying attention to the issues. Everybody is an english teacher.
ikarooz @ Nov 6th 2007 8:05PM
Will all the English majors PLEASE get off the condescending comments? I see it all over the 'net and it's gets old These forums are for discussion not your spel and gramer cheks! ITS A CHAT ROOM, GENIUS! Proper spelling and grammar are not necessary, if you get the point across.
oh yeah...The kid and the parents should seek some serious counseling

Spanking only teaches kids might makes right. One has to wonder why this kid, who was misbehaving so much, HAD a playstation in the first place. The parents didn't love this kid, the fact they kicked him out speaks to that. My guess is the only time they paid him any attention was when he misbehaved so consequently he was trained to misbehave, because what all kids want is attention from their parents. Negative attention is better than no attention at all. To kids, attention equals love.

Spare the rod, spoil the child.

We as a nation of political correctness and laws have failed the children of this country. We have created children who do not respect each other or any authority figure. They drink and do drugs at a younger age than ever because parents don't parent and the one's that do often loose their kids or go to jail for punishing them in the way that they see fit (sometimes corporal punishment as they now call it). We have outlawed paddleing and other forms of punishment in schools, homes and churches. It seems that Media, Music and Video games are raising our kids today because parents choose not to for whatever reason or are unable to because of having to work one, two and sometimes three jobs to make ends meet. Parents don't stay together anymore, marriage means nothing to a lot of people. Get tired of the person and simply walk away or divorce and then refuse to help support the children caught in the middle or left behind.
God has been taken out of school and homes. I don't mean "The God" I believe in, I mean whatever God you happen to believe in. It's a no no. We teach intolerance of the differences in people. Kids should be taught to love everyone be that Red, Yellow, Black, White, Straight, Gay, Mentally Challenged or whatever. How do you know that you are not driving your kid to suicide by hating gay people? Maybe your kid is gay. Maybe your kids best friend is black or an indian. Something to think about. Negativity breeds hate.
While the government thinks that everything they are doing is in our kids best interest and well being, they, and we as a people have destroyed the next generation.
The kids of today are out of control. They hire hit men to kill their parents or kill them themselves. The teacher makes them mad and so they bring guns to school and shoot it up (Where do they get these weapons). the curse authority and run around drunk and high. They are enticed by their teachers or priests, pastors or whomever into sexual activities. The bully other kids and abuse animals.
I'm sorry but if anyone wonders what the f@@K is going on with the kids they are idiots, Where have you been for the last 15 years while the government has been doing away with our freedoms and liberties and abilities to properly parent our children?
God help us in the future

Larry you are correct.

I agree with WC221994, we have to be parents first, then friends. I read this somewhere a long time ago and it still holds true, more today than then. If children aren't taught discipline and respect for authority at a young age it becomes harder for them to accept the older they get. Old habits are harder to break. I firmly believe that by not teaching children these life traits, we're setting them up for failure down the road. They'll have problems in upper education levels AND when they step out into the real world and have to deal with the reality of being a grownup with all of the responsibilities that entails. We have to supply the groundwork, the foundation for THEIR future. It's not what they want, but definitely what they need. Parents now, friends later!!!!!

Kosmo @ Nov 6th 2007 10:27PM
For Jen who has let the liberal media brainwash her into thinking that "violent video games" is the root of all evil. You first have to know the difference between right and wrong. Thats where us as parents come in. What it sounds like to me is "to little to late".
cindy @ Nov 7th 2007 12:24AM
yes, permissive parenting is a problem with today's youth. and, i can't imagine how hard it would be to raise a child in a single parent home....
on the other hand,we know some families have raised responsible children; except for the one problem child. maybe, occasionally, a child is born who is destined to be a problem child/adult.
Mayday @ Nov 7th 2007 1:16AM
This kid needs some professional help. He had to have had some problems long before this latest episode. The parents should have had him admitted to a psych ward earlier. The boy didn't look to hire a hit man until the police came to HIM. Sounds a bit like entrapment. I know I'm in the minority, but the parents are to blame also.
drktranquillity @ Nov 7th 2007 3:33AM
No, I think it has to do with parents not rearing their children properly. That kid obviously had plenty of problems before this incident. I just wana know where a 16 year old hired a hitman, heh!
media wiz @ Nov 7th 2007 3:35AM
Guess what people--your kids don't belong to you they belong to the State. The system has spent the past 40 years programming you and programming them.
Kytkah @ Nov 7th 2007 6:20AM
I have a near 10 yr old son. He has an Xbox, of which I took away, weeks ago, for disobeying me (hell, I even forgot what he did). I waited until I saw that he was doing what he was suppose to and I just gave it back to him just a few days ago. He actually thanked me for it. I only spank him when absoluted necessary--but I mostly remove his privilages. I demand respect from him, and he has learned how to respect everyone around him. Yes, he does get angry, but he accepts his punishment with no back talk. He actually straightens out after that, until next time....
Marv @ Nov 7th 2007 7:01AM
Cory is venting his anger, and expressing his self in his way. His parents will die someday anyway.
