Illegal Jamming of Noisy Cell Phone Talkers On the Rise
They may be illegal, but cell phone jammers are becoming more and more popular. These devices, which can cost as little as $50 and be as small as a pack of cigarettes, work by sending out strong radio waves that interfere with cell phone antennas, resulting in a "No Signal" warning on the phone.
According to the New York Times, overseas exporters of the cell zapping boxes say shipments to the U.S. have increased recently. They've been shipping hundreds every month to owners of hair salons, restaurants, theaters, and even annoyed commuters who just want some peace and quiet.
The FCC and cell phone providers, like Verizon, have recently stepped up efforts to track down and punish not only retailers, but also the users of cell phone jammers -- first-time offenders can be fined up to $11,000. Some might think this a small price to pay for getting that yappy teen in the movie theater to shut up, but we're not quite ready to cough up that much money for a little silence.

People are out of control with cell phones. They talk while driving wich is a hazard. They ring while in restraunts then you get to listen to their stupid conversations. People are rude with their cell phones get the hint no one cares to hear your stupid phone conversations about nothing!

Jammers should be allowed... to stop the dangerous drivers who slow down in fast lanes because they're too concerned with their cell phone conversation than paying attention to the road! I hate people who talk on the phone while driving and hold the rest of the world up. I'd love to jam these conversations in my own defense of having a safe ride to my destination!

Like it or hate it, the cell phone jammer is a clear sign of how much lots of us want more peace and quiet. You narcissistic cell users just don't get how much the rest of us loathe being forced to hear about your stupid little lives. But, you wouldn't care about this - because you're narcissists! Yep, I use a cell phone every day. And no, I don't need it as a self-esteem tool.

These are also used to buzz headsets in football games, rendering communications useless.

"Just think what will happen when criminals start getting their hands on these!"
It will be just like the old days when we didn't have annoying jerks talking on cell phones in the library or letting them ring in movie theaters. Just a question: Is violent crime going up or going down since the use of cell phones has increased? Maybe you should think about THAT before you talk.

Jamming is very tempting, but one day someone will jam an emergency message to a doctor, a parent or a police officer etc. Better if we all just do the right thing: text, or simply step outside if you really really have to make that call.
