Apple's Leopard OS Has Bugs
Apple's new version of Mac OS X, version 10.5, a.k.a. "Leopard," launched last week to a good bit of fanfare ... and a strong dose of piracy, too. It's already sold more than two million copies.
That said, things aren't entirely going well for the new cat. Many users are suffering from a wide range of problems when installing and configuring the new operating system (OS), ranging from random errors about Swedish language packs (oh ja?!?) all the way up to lost profiles.
According to reports, the problems are generally non-terminal, as in you probably won't wind up permanently losing any data, but some are complaining that their existing user profiles, along with all their preferences, are not being imported by Leopard. (So, starting up the new OS for the first time users are frighteningly asked to create a new account!) All the profile information is still there and data can be copied over to the new account, but that's a bit more work than you'd expect from an OS that prides itself on being extremely user-friendly.
Part of the problem apparently surrounds a program called the Usanity Application Launcher, or APE, which is somehow causing issues with the upgrade. If you use the program on your Mac (which apparently installs itself along with a number of Logitech devices), you're advised to uninstall it or upgrade that to a new, Leopard-friendly version before doing the full Leopard upgrade.
Or, you could maybe wait for the next update, which hopefully won't be quite so problematic.

So I guess all the Apple disciples will need to stop with the "How PERFECT Apple software is" and "You wouldn't have those problems if you had a MAC" nonsense... oh that's right, they still drank the Kool-Aid!

It's just like when Microsoft released Windows Vista. It's going to suck. Basically all new operating systems suck when they first come out. You think by now with all the expensive technology that Microsoft and Apple have at their disposal, then there wouldn't be any errors.

A friend of mine just got Leopard. She opened up the box, and bamm! No CD. There was no install disc, but there was the slot for where it would go, as well as every other piece of information. Way to go Apple, Sell a product, but forget to include it in the box.

I have had no major issues with the new OS. As always people have to make a big deal over a few problems from certain users. There is no way that this even compares to the number of problems Vista still has. Ha-ha. I can’t believe that this is even in the news. I work at Micro Center and we have sold almost a thousand copies of Leopard and only heard of a few problems. Which were easily solved with an uninstall of certain plug-ins.

iHaters need to get over it. I was born and raised DOS/Windows but recently converted iMac user. Read the article again, folks. Most of the issues were preference/profile related....NOT software/hardware issues that run rampant in every Windows OS! ps...love my iPhone too.

I installed leopard, with no problem on my G4 tower. All those windoze users are yapping, but they don't know what they're missing... They will find out next time Microsoft steals the apps and gui for their next OS.

Why pounce on Apple for this? Most software has bugs when released, and Apple doesn't claim its programs are user-friendly because they are absolutely free from defects but because their design facilitates easy use. Check out a mac, and I guarantee you'll love it. If you've never used one, them leave off the blind criticism.
