Porn Spammers Get Prison Time
About the only creature lower on the totem pole than the nefarious telemarketer is the spammer. With these creeps, you can't even take solace in the fact that they're only doing their job, which is why it fills us with a sick sense of giddiness every time one of these obnoxious mass-e-mailers gets tossed in the clink.
The latest bozos to get nailed for filling our In-boxes with junk e-mail are Jeffrey A. Kilbride, 41, of Venice, California, and James R. Schaffer, 41, of Paradise Valley, Arizona, who should be spending roughly the next five years for e-mailing graphic porn images advertising hard-core sex sites. Anyone who received the e-mail was able to view them.
Kilbride was sentenced to 72 months behind bars, while Schaffer will be spending the next 63 alongside him. The difference in sentences is due to Kilbride being charged with obstruction of justice for trying to prevent a witness from testifying against the duo. Otherwise both men were charged with sending spam messages with forged headers and domain names, conspiracy, fraud, money laundering, and obscenity -- all under the Can-Spam Act.
In addition to their jail sentences, Kilbride and Schaffer were fined $100,000 and ordered to pay $77,500 to AOL (Switched.com's parent company). They also had to cough up $1.1 million in illegal proceeds.
Anything that prevents more spam from coming to our In-box is a-okay with us.
How about you? Do you think these guys got what they deserved, or is the sentence too harsh? Let us know.

JP is wrong. A person merely has to order something on line (it may be something as innocent as clothes, books, or toys), and his name is sold to thousands of spammers--including those peddling on-line porn.
Which do you want--to give up on-line shopping or to have the smut (and hate) peddlars shut down for good? I opt for the latter.

The sentence was ok, but what are the chances that these 2 fools will ever have the ability to pay back all them numbers of dollars? It certainly will take a lifetime in doing so, even if the money is garnished, realistically, I can't see it happening. Perhaps incl. community service will help out.
GOOD JOB ALL THE FOLKS IN THE HRS TAKEN TO CATCH THESE 2 FOOLS. ;)

I think they missed a few. Never, and I mean never, open any foreign web site, most are links to porn and usually have trojens and spy links too.

We as a nation need to come together against stuff like this. Most don't want nothing to do with God. But I believe if we put our trust in God. Then things like this would be less apt to happen. When our children can open a site and end up redirected to some of this stuff. Something is wrong. Look at the shows on tv as well. This type of stuff is invading our homes thru the tv as well. We need to pray and put our trust where it belongs.

OMFG are you serious woman? You're son deserves to be in jail for not only robbing places three times, but for being stupid enough to get caught three times as well. AND you should be right behind him for turning him into the thief he is, and from what it sounds like, for supporting his ways. MAYBE you shouldn't have been so trashy and turned your son into a convicted felon.
Seriously, I'll take a spammer over a thief anyday, and your son is likely I wasn't the one who caught him, otherwise old boy would have been missing a hand.

HAHA, only 14% thought that the sentance was pretty harsh, and about half of those are probably spammers themselves!!! JAIL THEM ALL!!!
HAHAHAHA

7 years for murder, probation for child abuse and 5-6 years for spamming. I guess being annoyed is worse than murder and child abuse. Congratulations to our court system and the judges they are complete morons.

That is absurd. I could go out right now and beat somebody up and get less time than these guys did. Showing somebody porn should be subject to a fine...and the government shouldn't be wasting thier resources on going after guys like this.

They got what they deserved and I'm glad. I get sick and tired of spam in my email boxes. Most of it is stupid and repetitive. The worst is the kind where they senders expect me to be stupid enough to give my personal info to them without me even knowing who they are. I hope more spammers get jail time.

yeah i dont think its enough. a couple of years ago i tried to sign in on my aol account and i was told it had been suspended for spaming. i had not been on line in three days. so i contacted aol and they informed me that my account had mailed out over 1900 emails containing porn related material. thank god they beleived me in fact they said they knew it wasnt me that is why they froze my account.
