The Trippiest Optical Illusions on the 'Net
This silhouette wins the award for coolest thing we've seen all day -- and it's not just because the tiny dancer above is in the buff. This is a little test that will tell you whether the left or right hemisphere of your brain is more dominant.
Instead of concentrating on her chest, concentrate on the woman's movement. If you see her spinning clockwise, that means you're using the right side, or more creative side of your brain. If she appears to be moving counter-clockwise, then that means the left side, or more logical side of your think muscle is superior.
At the Switched office, some of us see her going clockwise, others see her spinning counter-clockwise. At least one of us claims to see both, while another one of us opened this animation in Adobe ImageReady in order to isolate the frames to see if there's any direction-changing funny business going on. There isn't.
Take the test for yourself. Then, if you have time for a 50-question survey, compare these instant results to a more thorough diagnosis.

NO HOAX.... I finally trained my eyes to move her back and forth at will...........
robOct 17th 2007 9:39PM
wut the heck, i can only see her going counter-clockwise
BrittOct 17th 2007 9:42PM
if you stare at it long enough it changes directions. When she starts going clockwise her foot and shadow dont match up.

My husband and I were both looking together. I saw ccw and my husband saw cw. Then he switched to ccw. A little later I switched to cw. We continued to make it switch. We were sometimes the same and sometimes different so I know it's in the eyes and not the movement itself.

i am sorry b/c i fear this is only going to start an argument w/ u closed minded fools who keep calling this a hoax. it is not. this is an optical illusion. if u can not make it work in your mind, that is not the fault of us who can. it absolutely changes rotation w/ the use of your brain. the change does not come at "random" as a result of the computer program. it works and after some practice it can be changed at will w/ ur mind....whooooo.... beware of the boogey man.

I figured it out!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Twirl your index finger in the direction that she appears to be spinning (Make sure you can see both, so hold it up to your face.) Now, reverse the twirl of your finger the other direction while you relax your eyes and blur the vision a little. She will spin that way!!!!!!!!!! Takes a little practice, but the finger twirl helps.

You can make your own. With twelve toothpicks, straws, or ice cream sticks, make a cube (parrallelopiped), only the edges, keep the faces empty. Tie a thread at one vertex, hang and spin. By looking through the object or off to the side, you can make it spin the opposite way in your mind.

Nice boobs.
JimOct 17th 2007 9:58PM
Counterclockwise only. Otherwise the reflection of her foot would show for the full turn. Since you can only see it going one way, it has to be showing the "far" portion of her turn It cannot be showing only "near" portion, which would be required if she was turning clockwise. Interesting, but the reflection clarifies it.

She is switching feet. Several minutes into rotation, they switch from left foot down to right foot down. Left foot anchored is clockwise and right foot anchored is counter. See for yourself.
saraOct 17th 2007 9:57PM
As she leans back into the anchored leg, the spin is revealed.

The key is the point where she is either facing you or away from you. because she is a silhouette you can't really tell which is forward which is backwards. If you could freeze her at one of those points you would not know if it was, say her right arm bent right leg raised facing away from you or left leg raised left arm bent facing towards you.
saraOct 17th 2007 10:01PM
Watch her from when she is totally facing away from you. See which leg is down. It changes legs.
CaraOct 17th 2007 10:12PM
I saw her going clockwise. When I started reading the article she went counterclockwise. Once i noticed her change she went right back to clockwise. I called my mother over. She saw her going clockwise and as she read the article she started going counterclockwise. I was looking and she was still going clockwise to me! Then we both looked at the article and saw her change directions again! Took the test 60% right 40% left!
saraOct 17th 2007 10:03PM
Then watch her thumbs. They reveal which way she faces. Watch it for several minutes. You'll see.
DannyOct 17th 2007 10:14PM
Feet, legs, shadows or boobs doesn't have anything to do with her rotation. Like I said before consetrate on the green leters just above her head. If consentrating hard enough you can see prefrificaly (sp) that she doesn't even rotate. She just moves back and forth.
haleyOct 18th 2007 2:59PM
This thing changes direction, watch her for it turns part way and comes back.

Someone sent this lady to me in an email about 2 weeks ago, and I think it is real. But that email stated that if you see her spinning clockwise, you are using your logical, left side of your brain and that if you see her spinning counterclockwise, you are using the right or creative side of your brain. I've shown this to many friends, and without fail, my analytical friends see her going only clockwise while my artistic friends see her going counter clockwise, or in both directions. I believe that the person who posted this on AOL has his facts mixed up and reversed. What do you think?
EnesthiOct 17th 2007 10:14PM
It's actually an illusion, the reason that the legs appear to be switching is because of where your mind puts shadows (even though they aren't there). The trick of it is that you're mentally putting imaginary lines on the figure, switch where the imaginary lines are, and the figure switches legs/directions. It's the brilliance of the human mind being it's own downfall while trying to fill in missing information.

i stared at it forever and never saw it change at all,, i dont know what everyone is talking about,, but i saw no changes
