How to Avoid Getting Scammed on eBay and Craigslist

To avoid getting scammed, Wired suggests trying to meet with people from Craigslist in person that you plan on purchasing from, or at least trying to verify their address. The eBay advice is a little more obvious, but it still bears repeating. Look at a seller's feedback, 100 positive messages means they're probably reliable, a host of negative or neutral reviews meas "watch your back". Also the age old adage is still true on eBay: If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
Head on over to Wired to get some more tips on keeping yourself from getting screwed.

I have a friend who used to sell on Ebay, but several times he got shafted be buyers and Ebay was no help at all in helping him get his money. I was going to sell on Ebay but after my friends problems and his service and charges that Ebay charges I decided I could not afford to sell there.

I use eBay all the time for clothes, books, jewelry...I love it. My former boss is an idiot and bought a $5,000 bicycle on eBay from a seller who did not use PayPal. I told him that was risky but he told me he knew what he was doing and that I should mind my own business. When his package was delivered at work, it contained a tire tube, a broken tire pump, and a bunch of river rocks. I never laughed so hard in my life. He never got his money back and the best part was he made himself look like an asshat in front of the whole office.
