LG and Verizon Take On the iPhone
Today, Verizon unveiled its new fall lineup of phones, the highlight of which, the LG Voyager, takes aim squarely at the iPhone. Sure, it's a dead ringer for Apple's Jesus phone, but it's those similarities as well as some significant differences that make the Voyager a suitable alternative to Apple's handset -- at least for those of us Verizon customers not interested in jumping ship for AT&T.
The similarities between the phones don't end with the slick black case. They both have a 2 megapixel camera in common as well as a touch screen, which on the Voyager, runs the slickest, most user-friendly interface we've ever seen on a Verizon or LG handset (it's actually based on the one used for the LG Prada Phone). Of course, there's e-mail and text messaging like there is on the iPhone.
It's what the Voyager does differently that's got us excited. First of all, it runs on Verizon's high-speed EV-DO network, which is significantly speedier than the AT&T EDGE network the iPhone is chained to. Voyager also has GPS, which is lacking on the iPhone. It doesn't have a hard drive like iPhone does, but it does have a slot for a microSDHC card, which currently top out at 8 gigabytes but will soon be achieving capacities of up to 32 gigabytes.
Lastly, the Voyager is actually clamshell phone, hiding a second (giant) screen and full QWERTY keyboard under it exterior. Our pals at Engadget Mobile got their hands on the Voyager this morning, and while they say the Voyager is a bit meaty in size, they're equally as impressed with it as we are. No price has been announced, but expect to see the Voyager in stores around Thanksgiving.
In addition to the Voyager, Verizon announced that is will carry the BlackBerry Pearl -- no different than what you get from other providers -- and the Samsung Juke, which is positioned as an entry-level music phone with its click wheel and 2 gigabytes of built-in storage.
There's also a second LG phone, the Venus, which puts an interesting spin on the touch screen craze –- whether good or bad remains to be seen. The screen is actually split into two parts, and only the bottom half is a touch screen. The top half is your standard cell phone screen, the content/context of which changes the buttons displayed on the lower half.

Commenter Jay already said this, but for those who think the LG Voyager is a copy of the iPhone is dead wrong and has it completely backwards. LG introduced the Prada phone in Europe and Asia long before Apple released the iPhone. The Voyager is a CDMA version of the Prada. I doubt the Prada will show up in the US any time soon as AT&T is the only major carrier with GSM and Apple is certainly not going to allow them to sell a competitor to the iPhone.

Alright, so the old chocolate was a bust. The new chocolate has been plenty solid along with most of lg's products. What manufacturere do you know has a full proof line of great devices? Yes, Apple makes great products but don't make them the cell phone god yet. As far as the mobile industry goes, they put all that energy in one phone. When they have to provide a plethora of devices for multiple companies internationally then talk. Lg is also not ripping off iphones design for which the lg prada phone superceded. LG actually has a pending lawsuit against Apple for copyright infringement. People tend to think that the first thing that comes to the public eye is the first of it's kind. And to rebut the guy earlier who was comparing the features, saying you can't play a movie on the voyager, try real tv. And if you were tech savvy enough you could put a movie on it stored to the SD. In conclusion, get excited about the Voyager and stop hating on LG phones and Verizon!

All,
To call this phone a rip off, is to call every thing a rip off since the telegraph.
For this phone to have come out just a few weeks after the Iphone tells u everything. Phones like the Voyager and the Iphone take years to design, develop and test. Everybody knows that everything in this industry is moving to some kind of touchscreen. This is the ONLY way to get more display real estate on a phone with out making it larger. Having a keyboard, double as a numeric pad, double as an MP3 player, double as the display. Everything is going this way, just look around. We started with a cell phone that you carried a battery pack, then a brick, then flip, etc. As new technology becomes available, everybody starts to incorporate it.
I have not used the Voyager yet, but I did have the IPhone and Mr. Jobs left a lot of functionality out. He left out a real PDA, UMTS, AGPS, etc. He could have made coolest and most functional phone on the planet. Instead he made a neat phone, with lousy battery life and a great interface.
Verizon HAs the BEST SERVICE ANYWAYS...SO How Bout it..!!!!!
I do have to admit, I am looking forward to the Next Generation of BOTH of theses phones.
