The Future According to 1967
As fun as it is to watch the dated visions of a computer run future, some of the sexist overtone make for uncomfortable viewing -- "What the wife selects on her console, will be payed for by the husband at his counterpart console."
Also, don't miss the segment -- starring the same idealized 1960s family unit -- about the kitchen of the future. According to 1960s futurists, all homes would have hand-and-face dryers in the washrooms to replace towels. They also predicted that all food would be frozen and automatically inventoried and moved to ovens and such by a computer. Guess they didn't consider today's backlash against processed foods and the move towards organic and sustainable ingredients.
We're wondering, though, why there was no place for the ridiculous LG HDTV refrigerator?

Mali, you wrote: "Sexism is when gender inequality occurs- no matter what era. Thank goddess those days are over!"
What makes you think that gender inequality is a thing of the past? Women still make less money than men in corporate America, and women's sports team get less newsprint in our newspapers, even if they are champions. Gender inequality is still very much alive! I'm a father of three daughters, and the grandfather of 5 granddaughters, and have been a feminist all my life, and am still fighting for equality of the sexes today! Please raise your awareness!

The trend today is more and more for women to be stay at home moms. I've heard women hoping to find a man that earns enough to support the family, so they can stay home with the children. One of the problems in our society today are " latch key kids" with little supervision by parents. Just maybe we should re-think what progress for women really means. BP

Floyd B, you are right on. But I have to say, the comments here, although bearing little individual thought beyond the usual PC speaking points and protestations of horror at reality, are for the most part expressed with complete sentences, capital letters, periods - Gads! This is one of the most readable sites I've run across. And, yeah, I got a laugh at the author's inability to stay on point and resist the childish "uncomfortable viewing" remark. And for all you "broad" minded folk out there, have you noticed the crap available for your reading pleasure at the local Safeway checkout line? Come a long way, haven't you, Baby!

Hey Geno-
Did you for some reason read "Thank goddess sexism is over"? I didn't think so. Please raise your literacy level! So you're a feminist- (just like the majority of people in the states- most don't realize "feminism" just means gender equality- not female domination [we still don't have a word for that yet]) Big whoop. You will still NEVER know what it is like to be a female. No matter how hard you try. So stop preaching to the choir and stick that comment up your wanna-be vagina!
Bitchingly, Mali :)

Hey everyone...I'm kinda new to this stream of unconsciousness thing, but if even the most banal of Disney-esque, futuristic, "wouldn't it be cool if..." videos create this sort of discord, then it is time to change how we view ourselves and our past. I like Milton Friedman's Rule Number 8: Be Nice.

Today most women wish they could stay at home with their children and have a responsible husband! That choice went out the window with women's lib......
