Worst Airbrushed Celebs of 2007 ... So Far
Believe it or not, celebrities are fat and zitty like the rest of us -- they just happen to have a secret weapon to fight flab and flaws that we mere mortals don't. We're talking about airbrushing, of course.
For those unfamiliar with the practice, airbrushing (aka Photoshopping, aka retouching) is when a photo is digitally manipulated to make the subject look better. That includes everything from magically erasing pimples to instantly shaving off a few pounds. The practice is so common, you can just about assume that any posed photo you see in a magazine has been altered in one way or another.
As you can imagine, airbrushing is not without its critics who argue that the practice is harmful to real people because it creates an unattainable ideal of beauty -- particularly for women. For example, this past July, the women's magazine Redbook came under fire when the above un-retouched cover photo of Faith Hill surfaced. And just this week, TMZ called out Jodi Foster for her suspiciously youthful appearance on the cover of this month's California Style magazine.
Yes, 2007 has already provided lots of airbrushing hubbub, and as you'll see not all of it surrounds female photo subjects. In fact, it's not just TV, movie and music stars, either -- politicians and athletes are having digital work done too. Keep reading to uncover the truth.

Faith is beautiful just how she is. I understand the airbrushing for making her look younger around her eyes, no problem. She has 3 kids, a husband and career. She's a busy gal. What I don't approve of is the stick skinny arm and reducing the slight back fat, that's pushing it a bit too much.

What about the "Allure" cover photo of Britney? I vote that is the most retouched photo of the year. It's amazing how they got rid of her bloated look.

That's as bad as cruise ship ads. You never see a passenger that has a weight problem. Everyone is slim, trim, and young funny how that happens.

Who cares about who airbrushes and who doesn't-as women we shouldn't point a jealous finger at these women. Rather, we should feel sorry for them. For one, in order to even get on a magazine cover they have to agree to photo touching -after all their natural looks just aren't good enough-how demeaning! Secondly, for those who will only do a shoot if it can be airbrushed- how pathetic! They are depressing their own self image...only a temporary, shallow happiness can be found from taking the prettiest, hottest or sexiest picture. These stars really need to stop being so egotistical and vain...and be real for once.

As a Personal Trainer and Registered Dietician doing fitness consulting this is something I've warned ALL my client about for almost 15 years now. I actually SHOW my Clients a VIDEO that Joan Lunden did back in 1996 on a show called "Behind the Scenes" of how they chopped her head off and put it on a size zero model for the cover of a magazine. The next sequence was of the photoshop crew erasing inches off a Cosmo Cover of Cindy Crawford. Therefore, I tell my clients.....apparently Cosmo don't think even Cindy Crawford was beautiful or thin enough without changing half her photo. So, always remember how great YOU'D look if someone photoshop'd YOU. Nobody is perfect and the pathetic IMAGES on MAGAZINES we feed our young girls should be illegal.

Retouching photos of celebritites has been around forever. For instance George Hurrell was a famous photographer who worked with many of hollywoods stars, such as Joan Crowford. He would have his subjects come in without a stich of makeup on and afterwards a man by the name of James Sharp would take the photograph and using a blending stump and things like powdered graphite would do things to the picture to make the person look flawless. I suggest a book by Mark A. Vieira called Hurrell's Hollywood Portraits. There is a before and after photo of Joan Crawford that's amazing.

Faith Hill is beautiful and I do not believe that she was airbruch to that extent. I think you people are absolutely losing your darn minds.
What next. Was Tim McGraw airbrushed also?

Faith Hill looks great whether she is air brushed or not. What's the big deal? Let's be honest. We'd all prefer to gaze upon perfection.

we might soon be reviving the concept from "Logan's Run!"

Let's face it as most would agree these people are entertainers and they want to look better than their best...don't we all! I disagree with cutting inches off though...a stretch mark, undereye marks and some pimples are fair game but to totally change ones actual looks is boarding on fraud. Having said that most people want to see a picture of immortality in the stars...let the tabloids shoot the unflattering shots as they will always to...did you want to see Princess Diana on the beach showing some flab and cellulose or in an evening gown looking stunning for us to remember her by...I will take the latter! Ciao to all...

Wow, so I guess this means that all the skinny starlets young women aspire to look like, are fake. So that means these young girls are aspiring to a fake ideal. Pretty sad to think people are working to look like something that is fabricated and perhaps never even attainable except in a photoshop studio. This is more proof that young women should have their own aspirations and strive to be who they are instead of trying to emulate something that isn't even real.

For all of you who are saying you don't see any difference in either Faith Hill pic:
The left pic is the airbrushed one.
*Bags under eyes have been erased.
*Laugh lines have been softened
*Nose has been narrowed
*Face has been brightened
*Front arm has been lengthened and slimmed
*The other arm was ADDED (you cant even see it in the original pic)
*waist slimmed
*Her back has been slimmed
*Collarbone shadows have been lightened
I love how the magazine says right beside her face: "faith, what's normal and what's not"
Everything is that picture is NOT normal.

My Mom was a model and has been out of the buisness for over 30 years now, funny the models I see on TV or in mags still look great even when they hit the mid 40's and older, my Mom has aged gracefully and looks every bit of her 70 years, maybe I should have her pic's airbrushes so she can look great for 70 too like all the actresses and model today??? Me at 40ish am stil a natural beauty! Genetics.....lol
CarterSep 4th 2007 8:31PM
Why bother photoshopping Faith Hill? She's beautiful anyway...

of fantasy where it is "safe" to their expectations of real women that are downright frightening. The degree to which women are now seen as little more than dress up dolls for men's entertainment is a collective mental illness from which both genders ultimately suffer. Men's standards lie within the surreal to absolutely unattainable in the natural world, and with those expectations many of them wind up alone, even MORE addicted to the porn that twisted them in the first place. Women of course suffer in that they can't possibly BE what these damaged guys EXPECT, so they go to extremes via surgery and eating disorders or also end up alone. Depth of emotion cannot grow in this kind of putrified petri dish. I've never been happier to be older and beyond this collective sickness. At least when I was 18 my real blonde hair and natural large breasts were something special, not something any woman can buy and all men expect. Sigh...
