Elderly Amish Man Caught on Film With Prostitute, Blackmailed
When a 75-year-old Amish widower slept with a prostitute, he -- we feel certain -- felt pretty bad about it the next morning. As if that guilt weren't enough for the old man, the prostitute and her boyfriend demanded $67,000 from him, claiming that they had filmed the scene with wall-mounted cameras and would upload the recording to the Internet. The pair was later arrested and, we can only imagine, the Amish man abhorred technology more than ever.
Bank Robber Gets Away With the Help of Craiglist
In October, a bank robber -- wearing a safety vest, blue shirt, face mask and goggles -- eluded police with the help of Craiglist. Just outside the bank, while the robbery was in progress, stood a group of men who were responding to a Craiglist day labor opportunity. As the advertisement required, they were all wearing safety vests, blue shirts, face masks and goggles.
Nude New Zealander Arrested After Responding to Fake Sexy Text Message
Late in 2007, a Wellington, New Zealand man received a racy text message from two anonymous "ladies," giving him only an address and a request that he show up naked. Well, he indeed showed up naked... at the home of one appalled, unsuspecting New Zealander. Both the nude Romeo and the sadistic texter were arrested, though neither were prosecuted.
Fake Craiglist Ad Costs Man Most of What He Owns
Last Spring, a post appeared on an Oregon Craigslist board stating that the owner of a specific house was leaving all of his worldly possessions (still in said house) to whoever wanted them. When homeowner Robert Salisbury rushed home -- on a tip from a woman suspicious about the offer of a free horse -- he found his house being ransacked by 30 strangers. We suggest he take that horse and collect some vengeance Clint Eastwood-style.
17-Year-Old Jailed for Stealing Virtual 'Furniture'
When a 17-year-old Dutch boy hacked into several accounts on the Second Life-style site 'Habbo' in 2007, the the law got involved. The boy was discovered to have stolen $5,800 worth of virtual furniture and knick-knacks. Apparently, crime -- whether actual or virtual -- does not pay.
Phishers Going After Your Phones in New 'Vishing' Trend
Over the past year, sneaky spammers have begun to forsake the worn-out territory of e-mail in favor of cell phones' fertile frontier. The result? "Vishing." Get it? Voice mail phishing. It might be more ominous if it didn't sound like a James Bond villain saying, "Wishing."
Burglars Break Into Restaurant, Steal HDTV, Leave Money / Food Behind
Around Halloween of last year, a truckload of thieves drove into -- that's right, into -- a Pennsylvania Mexican restaurant, where they -- apparently uninterested in the cash register -- stole a mid-grade 47-inch HDTV and fled the scene. We've all heard about how this generation is lacking in ambition, but this generation's thieves, too?

if texting while driving is "really" that dangerous , why aren't points being assessed to your driving record for violations ? this law is following the same path as the origional seat belt laws -- no points ; just a fine . which shows us that our "whoares" in sacramento are simply using the safety argument to create a new revenue stream . "MOMMY" government at it's best !

It's terrible what happened to those girls, but if you think about it, TEXT at a stop light, or stop sign. Not only that I personally don't even have to look at my phone while texting and can do it with one hand. :)

I was nearly hit and was run off the road by a texting car driver while motorcycling. The same thing has happened numerous times with motorists talking on their cell. Pay attention, hang up and drive. Give us 2 wheelers a break.

Another reason for birth control!!! Today, most kids are so selfish, arrogant, and all about me,me,me. Texting while driving is even worse than reading a book while driving. How flippen stupid can a person be?

Why only teenagers? I have a 45 year old daughter who drives ninety on the freeway, no hands on the wheel, swinging across four or five lnes at a time to pass, and tailgates. She does all this while texting and looking at her phone to type. Her mother and I absoluteely refuse to ride with her any more. We need to stay alive so there is someone to bury her. How sad is that?

Why are only teenagers stated in this law? What about the other age groups that text behind the wheel?

People need to realize that operating a moving vehicle is a responsibility that requires a driver's full attention. It's ridiculous that we have to legislate common sense.

I think texting while driving should be illegal because it takes the decision away from the drivers. Infact, not everyone is a good driver and at the same level of skill. Yet we all think we're great drivers. Right?! I'd be open to multi tasking but not at the risk of my child's life. So if you text and drive please consider that it's my job to make sure my child makes it home safe. And with all the technology out there... Get a bluetooth and just talk!!!! There are plenty of unlimited calling plans out there that are affordable for kids and parents. Texting should be saved for times when a conversation should be silent. Not every conversation 24/7. It's lame that we even have to enter a blog about how reckless it is for someone to take on such a task. It's not all about YOU, YOU, YOU. What about my 4 year old's safety??? Doesn't that count?

I believe that focusing on teen drivers is a form of age discrimination. Why should they receive a harsher punishment when adults may text as often as teens? Where are the statistics saying that all teens text while driving more often than adults who text while driving? Is the trolley driver a teenager? It is my understanding that he is not. So why are the newscasters shifting the attention from adults who text while driving to teens?
