GPS-Equipped School Uniform Allows Parents to Track Kids
Every high school student's worst nightmare is about to come true. No, not the one about showing up naked to class -- the one where your parents and your school can track your every move.
British company Trutex has come up with a way to sew satellite-based tracking devices into school uniforms. Trutex argues that 59 percent of British parents are "interested" in purchasing the GPS-enabled duds for their offspring, at least according to some of their own market research figures.
We remember high school being a bit like prison, but embedding a tracking device similar to the one Paris Hilton had to wear inside a kid's clothes seems a bit extreme, no?

I used to think GPSing kids was a symptom of overprotective, paranoid parents. Then my sister-in-law went crazy and took off with my nephew. We got him back, but there's still the danger that she'll try to steal him again, and she's unstable enough to be a real threat to his health and well-being.
I think in certain cases, the GPS is justified.

Do you think the Death penalty would eliminate child predators from society? Forget the GPS to constantly monitor and violate freedom...Should it be used on the predators instead of the citizens?
Just Wondering...

I think it's a good idea as long as the system doesn't get hacked by their boyfriends or predators and then they are tracking your kids.

I wish I could plant a lo-jack in my children. With all these sexual predators around I don't think it's overboard. Just imagine all the missing children that could have been found before it's too late. Like that 9 year old who was raped and buried alive. She could see her house from the window of the trailer home that she was taken to.

The sexual predators your children are at risk from are people you trust! Quit believing the 24 hour news channel hype. And be a real parent by teaching your kids to avoid situations that are unsafe rather than taking the easy way out... dressing dumb kids in 'intelligent' clothing!!!

We could just put one of those under the skin tracer devices we put into our pets, then we could keep track of our kids, our spouses, our wandering parents, our autistic kids who get lost in the woods, people like Steve Forbes, ourselves....

Uniforms are bad enough without parents tracking their poor kids. What happened to trust, and more importantly, how much would they cost?!
ascatalDec 5th 2007 11:42AM
the uniforms inmy opinion are doomed to fail all the student would have to do is have a change a clothing with him or her and change into then ditch the school uniformin thier locker or where ever and be off to do what ever they might choose to do and be completely untrackable
ascatalDec 5th 2007 11:45AM
and as for predators all they would have to do is force the child to change clothes and dump the uniform and then the tracking would be uselessin finding the child, and as Laura Robbins said only by implanting the trackers in the child would it be fool proof until someone finds a way to either jam it or completely disable it
