AT&T Drops 'Fewest Dropped Calls' Claim
You're all probably familiar with the "fewest dropped calls" campaign from AT&T (formerly Cingular). If you're a current or former customer, you know that claim is questionable at best. After a protracted legal battle with Sprint and an investigation by the Better Business Bureau, AT&T is dropping the slogan.AT&Ts original claim was based on part of a report by research firm Telephia that, ultimately, did not conclude AT&T had the most reliable network. In fact, for several years running, AT&T has a place near the bottom of Consumer Reports and JD Power & Associates lists for reliability and customer satisfaction.
However, AT&T's new slogan, "more bars in more places," sounds like more of the same if you ask us.

A couple of years ago, in the midwest, I drove an SUV all over the city while a guy in the back seat watched over cell phone coverage monitoring equipment for about 6 different cell phone carriers. Occasionally, I would ask him about signal strength in certain areas. I seem to remember that AT&T's coverage was not as good as my Verizon service. Also, another bit of cell phone trivia; cell phone towers only have a range of 2.5 to 4 miles.

I have been with Cingular for years, however, since the change to AT&T, the areas in which I travel the most, there are now numerous areas where calls are dropped each and every time you reach these areas. Many more than before. Service inside buildings is also not as good as before. It has become a standing saying when calls are returned, instead of saying, hello, one hears "I have AT&T and am so thankful for the fact that I have the service with the fewest dropped calls". Wise move on their part to change their campaign.

I don't have much to say different from some of the comments made except I was told it would be easier to put all my phones in a bundle, well that was a lie. I had so much trouble trying to keep my billing straight I threaten to stop my contract. Then my girl friend was talked into getting AT&T by me so we could save money and we have had more drop calls in less than a year than I have had for over 10 years, she lives in Colorado. My sister is in my bundle and lives 5 minutes away and every time we call on another the call drops. This is crap and when all my agreements are over I am crossing over to a better systems.

I've been with AT&T/Cingular/AT&T for several years and can definately say that it's gotten worse over the last year. TECHNICALLY my calls aren't "dropped" because they don't ever disconnect... they just go silent and never come back. So you hang up and call back. Not dropped because YOU hung up.

A) I have a Samsung Blackjack which comes with two batteries. I swap daily, which means turning off the phone. Still have problems.
B) Yes, when I'm listening to FM radio and go through a tunnel or between trees or under powerlines the station sometimes (rarely but sometimes) fades out... HOWEVER when I get to the other side it comes back. Why is it when I lose reception for 2 seconds and then immediately get back to 5 bars the call never comes back?
Finally, as the years have rolled on phones have become MP3 players, cameras, address books, personal organizers, web browsers, video games, digital recorders... etc
The actual voice call portion of most phones hasn't improved much over the last few years. Sure, you could blame the companies that build the phones however since the majority of cell phone sales are through the wireless company I'd think it's likely that AT&T could put pressure on the manufacturers to improve products, if they wanted to do so.(You can't just go to walmart and buy whatever phone.. you have to sign up for service and even then each company has their own exclusive phone deals i.e iPhone)
I don't have any plans to switch, everyone I work with is AT&T/Cingular/AT&T so I'd have to have three times as many minutes if I went with another company.

AT&T has fewer dropped calls because they have fewer calls that can get connected. & out of 10 call say that the call cannot be connected at this time, try again later.
