New Digicam Detects Smiles
Every so often a device arrives boasting a feature that walks the line between cool and absurd (ever seen the amazing hotdog and hotdog bun toaster?). Sony's upcoming Sony Cybershot DSC-T200 digital camera is one such device, and the feature in question is its smile detector. Yes, just in case you can't tell whether or not your subjects are saying 'Cheese!,' the DSC-T20 has a mode that uses an algorithm to detect smiles.
The detector is turned on by activating the 'smile shutter' mode. You simply choose the smile detection level: high for slight smirks, medium for normal smiles, and low for Gary Busey-grade toothy grins. When all of your subjects are confirmed to be getting their happy on, the camera snaps the photo for you.
Otherwise, the DSC-T200 is standard digicam fair with 5x digital zoom, 8 megapixels and a wide touchscreen LCD view finder. As for smile detection, it's a rather useless feature we could do without. And, let's be honest: If you need an algorithm to tell you when your friends are smiling, you probably don't have the brain power to operate a camera anyway.

Shame on A"OL for mocking Gary Busey or ANYONE for having bad teeth, therefore a weak smile!!!
What is on the OUTSIDE of a person is SELDOM a TRUE reflection of what's going on INSIDE. Vanity satisfied can NEVER buy lasting happiness, fame, or the peace that passes all understanding. I had bad teeth for years because my family neglected my teeth. I finally began to have dental and orthodontic care when my husband's company insurance dental plan covered it all because we had no extra income or money. Don't judge others character or worth by their APPEARANCE, because too often it is only a
veneer!!!

Whoa lymda. You are reading way too much into that comment. The article simply explained that for a BIG smile the detector is set on low. No where did it say he had bad teeth. Gary Busey is known for his full teeth smile. Goodness gracious, calm down.

I have the hot dog maker. It actually works great for my kids since I can throw in some hot dogs and 5 minutes later, bam, there done. It even caramelizes the fat to make them taste better. A pot, boiling water, and 20 minutes is a bit more of a pain, so I don't see why you call it absurd.
