GE's First Digital Camera Disappoints Reviewers

GE's First Digital Camera Disappoints

When GE announced the G850 digital camera, they entered a new market. Based on the G850's specs, it seemed like GE's first digicam effort would stack up well against the established competition. The pocketable camera is rated at 8 megapixels -- hardly notable -- but it also includes a 5x optical zoom and image stabilization. Both are features that are rarely seen in a camera you can fit in your pocket without looking like a total dork. That, combined with a $200 price point and a slick exterior, made it a seemingly appealing choice.

However, the reviews are in, and the camera does nothing but disappoint. This clip from the PhotographyBLOG review pretty well sums it up: "The GE E850's main problem was with noise. The GE E850 is the worst performing camera that I have ever seen in this area, with noise evident even at the slowest speed of ISO 80. Anything above ISO 100 is a complete write-off, which limits this camera to good lighting conditions only." Combine that poor image quality with exceedingly slow performance (3 seconds between pictures!) and you have what sounds like a total dud. At least the thing isn't likely to cause physical injury like some other cameras we've heard of.
