Bad Cell Reception at Home? Get a Femtocell.
It may sound like some cute, cuddly organism, but a femtocell is something entirely different. It's the cure for dark spots where your cell phone just won't get a signal. A femtocell is a small device that uses your Internet connection to act as a portable cell tower. Just plug it in and -- presto -- instant coverage in your home without having to stand in that corner where you barely get two bars.BBC News has a lengthy report on the devices and their potential, indicating that some time in the not-too-distant future femtocell devices may be included as part of your standard two-year package from a wireless provider. It makes good sense, as you'd have great reception in your home (and potentially wherever you were on vacation) while wireless companies could cut back on new cell towers that cost millions to erect ... and potentially even more to decorate.
