Verizon TXTs to the Tune of 10 Billion
News from Verizon today gives a strong indicator of the massively increasing popularity of text messaging. The country's biggest carrier is claiming that customers sent and received 10 billion (with a B) messages over its network in June alone. That's a huge number (especially if Verizon is making $.10 per message) made even more impressive when you consider that Verizon only broke the 5 billion-per-month mark in September of last year. If you needed any more proof that teens have put e-mail on the pay-no-mind list, there you have it.
Verizon also reported 200 million multimedia messages were sent during the same period. This includes photos and videos sent to friends to capture those "Wish you were here!" or "I am so drunk right now!" moments.
