How Presidential Candidates Are Using the 'Net

McCain is taking his Straight Talk Express to the Internet, and relying very heavily on his own social network, McCain Space. McCain Space is expectedly similar to My.BarackObama.com -- a full-fledged social network just for supporters. McCain's network does offer more customization than Obama's, however, opting for a MySpace-style create-your-own-page system, while My.BarackObama.com opts for a standard and static Facebook-style profile page.

McCain has recently overhauled his campaign and his Web page, finally adding links to his Myspace page, his YouTube channel, his Facebook profile, and his Eventful site. McCain does empower his supporters more than Mr. Giuliani, but falls short of most of the Democratic efforts. His YouTube channel features videos such as a campaign stop at a NASCAR race, where he connects with supporters and most of his friends (40,000+) that make it to his top list on MySpace are actual supporters and not just a list of groups there to serve his vanity. He has also included a large "Demand John McCain" button linking back to Eventful. His MySpace page, though well designed, lacks personality and any personal info.
