CBS Eye-lert Tells You When TV Shows Run Late
If you're not watching TV with a DVR or Tivo or the like, you're missing out on, well, a lot of useless but entertaining TV programming that you could be watching at your leisure. But despite all the joys and convenience of time-shifted viewing, Tivo and DVRs still have one big challenge: tardy sporting events. Fans of prime-time Sunday television dread the beginning of the football season because late games are always messing up their recordings,.But come this Fall, there may be a solution, courtesy of CBS. The network is launching a new service it calls "Eye-lert" that enables you to receive real-time programming updates.
Just about every channel will e-mail you what's on tonight, but CBS goes the extra step of sending an e-mail or text message when a given program is running late, whether it's because of an overtime-laden sporting event or major world news (you know, Paris Hilton getting out of jail and the like).
Of course, if you're not home and you can't get to your DVR (or to a Web-connected computer so you can update your DVR), you won't get much out of these alerts, but at least it won't be a surprise when your recording of the latest 'Ghost Whisperer' episode cuts out right before the misty-eyed conclusion.
