Which Video Game Console Will Rule This Year?

So, the Big Three made their announcements concerning all of the games they'll be releasing in the next year, as well as new features for their hardware. Sony and Microsoft have clearly observed the success of the Nintendo Wii, and they want a piece of the casual gaming pie. In their respective press conferences, both companies spent a lot of time on games that would appeal to the masses -- not just hardcore gamers -- like Wii and Nintendo DS games do.
So, you'd think Nintendo Wii would be one step ahead of the other two consoles and have something truly revolutionary up its sleeve during its own press conference, right? Not quite. Instead, Nintendo got a little weird. The crown jewel of its event was 'Wii Fit,' a game designed to help gamers stay in shape. We applaud Nintendo for heading off in its own direction and trying something different, but weight loss? Sorry, but that's definitely not going to be as appealing to casual gamers as games such as 'Wii Sports' and 'Brain Age' were. Microsoft paraded out a Wii-inspired controller for the Xbox 360 and a special edition puke-green Xbox 360 for 'Halo 3.' There were some OK announcements about Disney HD content on Xbox 360 Live Marketplace, but that was about it.
For my money, the most exciting news came for the Sony PS3, which seemed humbler than ever at this year's E3 conference. Sony's news wasn't exactly earth shattering, but there were some exciting highlights, like the ability to display PSP content on your big screen TV, and a nice update of its PS3 virtual online world called 'Home.' Sony showed loads of games, some aimed at the hardcore set and others aimed at more casual players. Definitely worth your time when they come out: 'Echochrome,' 'Heavenly Sword' and 'LittleBigPlanet.'
