Elderly Amish Man Caught on Film With Prostitute, Blackmailed
When a 75-year-old Amish widower slept with a prostitute, he -- we feel certain -- felt pretty bad about it the next morning. As if that guilt weren't enough for the old man, the prostitute and her boyfriend demanded $67,000 from him, claiming that they had filmed the scene with wall-mounted cameras and would upload the recording to the Internet. The pair was later arrested and, we can only imagine, the Amish man abhorred technology more than ever.
Bank Robber Gets Away With the Help of Craiglist
In October, a bank robber -- wearing a safety vest, blue shirt, face mask and goggles -- eluded police with the help of Craiglist. Just outside the bank, while the robbery was in progress, stood a group of men who were responding to a Craiglist day labor opportunity. As the advertisement required, they were all wearing safety vests, blue shirts, face masks and goggles.
Nude New Zealander Arrested After Responding to Fake Sexy Text Message
Late in 2007, a Wellington, New Zealand man received a racy text message from two anonymous "ladies," giving him only an address and a request that he show up naked. Well, he indeed showed up naked... at the home of one appalled, unsuspecting New Zealander. Both the nude Romeo and the sadistic texter were arrested, though neither were prosecuted.
Fake Craiglist Ad Costs Man Most of What He Owns
Last Spring, a post appeared on an Oregon Craigslist board stating that the owner of a specific house was leaving all of his worldly possessions (still in said house) to whoever wanted them. When homeowner Robert Salisbury rushed home -- on a tip from a woman suspicious about the offer of a free horse -- he found his house being ransacked by 30 strangers. We suggest he take that horse and collect some vengeance Clint Eastwood-style.
17-Year-Old Jailed for Stealing Virtual 'Furniture'
When a 17-year-old Dutch boy hacked into several accounts on the Second Life-style site 'Habbo' in 2007, the the law got involved. The boy was discovered to have stolen $5,800 worth of virtual furniture and knick-knacks. Apparently, crime -- whether actual or virtual -- does not pay.
Phishers Going After Your Phones in New 'Vishing' Trend
Over the past year, sneaky spammers have begun to forsake the worn-out territory of e-mail in favor of cell phones' fertile frontier. The result? "Vishing." Get it? Voice mail phishing. It might be more ominous if it didn't sound like a James Bond villain saying, "Wishing."
Burglars Break Into Restaurant, Steal HDTV, Leave Money / Food Behind
Around Halloween of last year, a truckload of thieves drove into -- that's right, into -- a Pennsylvania Mexican restaurant, where they -- apparently uninterested in the cash register -- stole a mid-grade 47-inch HDTV and fled the scene. We've all heard about how this generation is lacking in ambition, but this generation's thieves, too?

Oh, gee.... I almost went a whole week there without any news about Paris Hilton. Thanks for ruining it for me with this nonsense. Who gives a rat's posterior about Paris Hilton? She's a nobody! Stop covering her and watch how fast she straightens out.

Gee, Dr. Bob. I'm sorry the Paris Hilton article ruined your week. It seems that if Paris Hilton news was in fact so repugnant to you, you wouldn't even have opened and read the article, much less taken the time out of your obviously busy and important schedule to post a comment about it.

What a world or rather country. You have a president that dumps a prison sentence for a man that harmed national security. Did anybody blog about that? NO..but a 23 day stay by Ms. Hilton still gets headlines. And you wonder why the rest of the world thinks the USA is a joke..

I think you missed the point of the article. It is not about Paris Hilton, it is about how unfair our justice system can be. Though I am not surprised that a celebrity received preferential treatment, I think it is up to the citizens of this country to show our displeasure to our elected officials. Articles like this put them in the hot seat.

I had thought in jail or prison that all calls were monitored for security. Was Ms. Hilton's calls recorded or monitored or is there a record at least of who she called. I hope she had it on vibrate for incoming as not to disturb the other "guests". If any record was kept (which I doubt) or list of calls can be discovered, they should be published; public right to know. This simply gives jail and prison, and Ms. Hilton a bad name. My only hope is she wasn't ordering out for pizza, but them maybe she doesn't eat pizza. Simply shame on everyone.

Perhaps the question should be why can't the prisoners have cell phones? The cell phone would have a clear record if they were harrassing anyone and otherwise would be less stress for guards and likely leave prisoners in a better mood causing less problems for the guards. So Why Not let them have cell phones? If they harrass someone then they loose their cell phone? Might keep them behaving.

The reason for the payhones is that all of the calls are being recorded. It is a message that will come up when the collect call is placed. The telephone company makes big bucks from the calls because you can only make collect calls from there. The calls usually last only 15 minutes if you are lucky so then they have to call you back. Again it is just a case of another celebrity getting better treatment than the rest of the other criminals that are in jail.

Such a shame to see that money can affect even the justice system. I thought it was just the lawyers so corrupted but the whole system there is corrupted by money.

Who really cares? She drank on probation... should she be in jail in the first place? It's like J walking. Who hasn't broken a law at one time or another. Too much hype over a simple thing. People seem more angry about this or at least just as angry at the O.J. verdict.

Having a cell phone in jail is a serious thing! If you are in a prison you will lose good time, recieve a "shot", and be transfered to a higher security facility. If Paris had a cell phone she should've had to serve the 40-something day sentence the judge gave her instead of 23 days. If she really did get a cell phone I'll be ticked!!!
