Get Early, Free Access to Video Games & Sites
In the world of closed betas, test versions of pre-release applications and games that are only open to a select few, it's all about who you know. Back when GMail first launched, for example, the only way to get an account was to have a friend who already had one. Users were given a precious ration of invites that they could send to whoever they liked. These became highly desired and a whole virtual marketplace sprang up trading GMail invites among friends and strangers, with some who were totally unconnected even resorting to eBay to buy a precious "in." That'll all change with a new site called InviteShare, a service that makes it easy to trade beta invites with others. At the (somewhat busy-looking) site, you sign up for the betas you're interested in and list the betas you have invites for. By sharing invites, you gain priority on those invites you're looking to receive, meaning you're more likely to get into the beta of whatever the hot new app everyone happens to be fawning over today. But even if you have nothing to share at first, you're likely to be able to get in on something cool and limited, which you can then brag to your friends about -- assuming any of them even know or care what pre-release tools like Pownce or Skitch are.
