Sprint Dumps Problem Customers

This move mirrors similar practices by companies like financial services firm ING Direct, which frequently "fires" customers who put too many demands on the company's purposefully limited customer service facilities. However, this is a core aspect of ING Direct: delivering low fees and high returns on investments at the cost of "no frills" account access. Sprint, on the other hand, doesn't exactly offer prices any lower than the competition, nor any other advantages. And, given the fact that Sprint is currently bleeding customers (220,000 lost in the first quarter of 2007), it seems odd the company wouldn't be accommodating to anyone willing to sign one of its contracts.
And here's something else to ponder: If Sprint can charge you a $200 fee for terminating a contract early, why can't you charge Sprint for doing the same?

SPRINT DID THOSE CUSTOMERS A HUGE FAVOR! DANG IT, IF ONLY I HAD WAITED IT OUT A FEW MORE WEEKS BEFORE I CANCELLED THEM I WOULDNT HAVE HAD TO PAY ALL THOSE EARLY TERMINATION FEES! (THE FEE'S WERE WORTH IT. WONT BE LONG TIL THEY ARE RAPIDLY OUT OF BUSINSS.. GOOD RIDDENS!

I used to have Spring\t--several times paid by check over the phone. Really big mistake--someone from their customer service helped themselves to $250 from my checking account. In my efforts to contact Customer "service" I was routed to an automated menu. What a surprise--they have a menu choice for what to do about unauthorized withdrawals from your checking account! I contacted my bank manager instead, who refunded me the money and went after Sprint for fraud. I do not know the outcome of that situation (but I was hoping that Sprint would be out of business soon!) Oh, well, Tracphone for me from now on. Very cheap.

You think Sprint is bad for a cell phone provider, try living where I do and having Sprint be the ONLY phone company. They are LIARS who steal from their customers!
DeeJul 6th 2007 3:19PM
I have you all beat I have 6 phones. 3 sit in a draw and are not being used last month they charged me for calls on a phone that does not even have a battery for, I gave it to a friend with same phone. The others are my husbands, mine, and a pc card for the laptop. I run all 48 states thats the only reason I am still will them because even when I do have to go to Canada it goes with me.

I GLADLY paid the early termination fee to be done with SPRINT! After being a loyal customer for many years the one replacement phone they gave me died before the free replacement time(I was 6 weeks short). They wanted me to purchase a new phone for over 100.00 dollars. On top of this they did not use sim cards and said that they had no way to transfer my phone book. Faced with inputting my data by hand and paying for a new phone I went to T-Mobile and recieved a better plan, free phone and best of all, a sim card to store the data. When I called SPRINT to tell them I was changing companies they then wanted to work with me. Too little too late. SPRINT shouldn't be surprised when it bleeds coustomers. Good riddance!

It sounds to me like this company will be going down in flames if they don't get their act together. And to the poster that claimed that they are all the same, that is NOT the case. I have had Verizon for almost 10 years, and although they are the most expensive, you get what you pay for. I always have the best reception, the best features, and their customer service is pretty with it. I don't know why people think that you can pay half the price and get a better service.

We have to call Sprint EVERY month because they can not get the billing straight. They were charging us a local tax for Illinois and we live in PA..After hours and I am not exagerating, HOURS on the phone, they finally got it straight. But we still have to call every month because the billing is wrong. The company is a joke and if they have to get rid of customers, due to there bad business practices, I hope they get sued and go out of business. There are other carriers that will be happy to have the customers.SPRINT IS A JOKE. They should change there name to STINK..

I just cancelled my Sprint service yesterday. I waited over 45 minutes to speak to a customer service rep. They are circling the drain. They will put themselves out of business very soon. Their customer service is non-existent. Ladies and Gentlemen, suck it up, pay the $200 early termination fee and walk away. By far the best money I have ever spent. To be rid of Sprint is the best decision I have ever made!
LcraigsJul 6th 2007 3:28PM
Typical Sprint move they still have that monopoly attitude left over from when they were the only home phone provider in their area. I hope they go down the tubes and take NEXTEL with them. It would be hilliarious and what they deserve.

Well... apprently everyone hates sprint.
Thank goodness I have cingular.
JoshJul 6th 2007 3:29PM
I love sprint. They have been really good to me and I have not had any problems whatsoever with their cell service or customer service. I swear by them. I'm in my sitxh year as a customer, if I ever have an issue it is always corrected. I think it is hilarious that sprint fires customers. There are a lot of really dumb people out there and if they can't figure out a cell or read a bill, then they need more help than sprint can offer. Besides less call volume means less customer service reps which ultimately means more money back into the product or lower prices. Let someone else deal with the people who are "cell phone" challenged.

I AGREE W/ THE SPRINT SERVICE SUCKS B/C MII MOM PUT ME ON HER PLAN IN DECEMBER OF 2006 AND WE WERE ALWAYS ROAMING AT HOME N THEY SAID WE WOULDNT ROAM B/C WE WERE IN OUR OVERAGE AREA. BUT LUCKILY WE HAD FREE ROAMING....BUT NOW SHE HAS ALLTEL N I HAVE AT&T....I HEARD U CAN GET OUT OF YOUR SPRINT CONTRACT IF YOU PAY FOR ROAMING BY SAYING "YOUR ROAMING RATES GOING UP ARE ENTIRELY 2 MUCH 2 BE PAYING" DUE TO THE INCREASE IN ROAMING CHARGES COMING SOON OR PROBABLY ALREADY BEING APPLIED!!! SPRINT IS SO NOT CUSTOMER SATISFYING!!!!

I too called to change my plan and they didn't tell me they automatically renewed my contract for another 2 yrs. When my two year contract was up (or so I thought) I wanted to trade up for a new phone and they said I wasn't eligible because when I had called to change my plan, they renewed my contract as if I bought a new phone ~RIP OFF! With enough stink I got my old contract date but I believe I was talking to someone in another country with a heavy accent and the conversation was SO difficult and time consuming. Have the time their responses or so "generic" or "rehearsed" its disgusting. I had difficulties with Cingular to that's why I switched in the first place. Where do we go next? These people get paid penny's on our dollars and we get crappy customer service.

I've had Sprint for well over 10 years. If it wasn't for my husband (who works at Sprint), I would not have been with them this long. Fortunately, the few times I've had a problem with my phone, he is able to fix the issue because I just cannot trust anyone else to do so. But I've heard the horror stories and when he finally leaves the company, I will change my service elsewhere.
TboxJul 6th 2007 3:33PM
I had sprint once...sort of. They sent me a phone after canvassing the neighborhood with a free phone, no contract, and only $20.00 a month speil. My neighbor got hers a week before mine and already realized she was screwed. When she told me I never activated the account (you had to call in to do that) Two weeks later I had a bill for over $100.00! I called them, sent back the phone but they still tried to get 2 months out of me! I now have Cricket and LOVE it! I've had it over a year and have never had to call customer service! You have to buy your own phone but there is no contract and UNLIMITED minutes!
It would be nice if Sprint had to pay those customers a termination fee! LOL!
CSX SUCKSJul 10th 2007 8:52PM
They just gave you an easy out of your contract!! Call custimer service with stupid questions everytime you get bored (or 10 times a day which ever is greater) and they cancel your contract. Get a better carrier, sell your phone on craigslist or eBay and join the class action lawsuit!!
WillJul 6th 2007 3:37PM
I wish they would have thought of this when I fired them. Thankfully, I had no contract and cancelled with no issues. Sprint is by far the worst company to do business with both in wireless and land line. I agree that if they cancel customers the customer should be refunded the cost of equipment, any fees to switch carriers, as well as early termination fees.

Ditto from everyone. I got a treo that decides to shut off its bluetooth function. Customer Service never heard of the problem (despite many posts on the internet about this very same thing from many people). Referred to local service center. They said, yup, lots of people have the problem, nope, nothing we can do with it. Basically live with it. To be fair, Palm is part of the problem, but at this rate I will be an ex-customer as soon as my agreement expires (or maybe I'll just keep calling them...)
KristieJul 6th 2007 3:40PM
HA! This is funny. I've called Sprint twice in the past week and had the absolute worst experience as a customer due to their lack of competent phone techs. However, my story has a somewhat happy ending- when I finally got through to someone who could actually help me, and explained that I had been on the phone with Sprint for three and a half hours, talked to over a dozen people who told me they didn't know what to tell me, and been cut off eight times, he gave my cell phone free of charge. Still not quite worth the hastle I'm still dealing with (I was on the phone with them for an hour yesterday too), but hey, I felt slightly vindicated. Now at this point, if they tried to drop our $700 a month company account, I'm pretty sure not a tear would be shed. Although I'd be really tempted to contact a lawyer just for sh$@# and giggles :)

I had sprint for all of 4 MONTHS. Got rid of their ass'. Sprint is HORRIBLE !!!! HORRIBLE !!!! I wouldnt reccomend them to anyone EVER !!!! Nextl..
