The Web's Most Annoying Words
Rounding out the poll's top three are pop-culture favs "blogosphere" and "blog," both inspired by the explosion of "web log" popularity and influence. "Wiki," a user-generated knowledgebase, came tenth.
We at Switched have our own list of irritating Interneticisims:
- Dubdubdub - Not as part of a fable, but when used as a pronunciation for "WWW."
- Earl - We love the Duke, but not when his name is used as a pronunciation for "URL" (often by dubdubdubbers).
- Google - Google is great, but not as a verb.
- Web 2.0 - This is perhaps the most cliched term in Internet use today.
- Podcast - It's just a recording of you talking into a microphone. Stop trying to make it sound cooler.
- Internets - Actually this one's pretty funny. It's just that we get all depressed when we think about its origin.

This is a first for me. Can't believe that so many people hate "went missing". I despised it as soon as I heard it. Sounds like someone who does not have enough command of the language to come up with a proper phrase.
I am 63 and sometimes feel ancient. I work on a computer every day, but don't know much, just my job. How pitiful is that?

Even more annoying than these web words are "clever" little articles that try to develop sarcastic humor out of minutia. But don't let this akward attempt kill your creative spirit, young journalist. I'm sure you thought it was smart, so there's bound to be at least one other who agrees.

My biggest pet peeve is the misuse of 's(apostrophe s). For example: The store is open on Sunday's. The apostrophe is only to be used in a possessive manner, for example: The store was open during Sunday's thunderstorm. Another peeve of mine is those people who cannot spell. For example and as said in a previous comment: Lose and Loose are probably the two words most people screw up. That is because they did not pay attention in English class! Also in a previous comment, Ebonics! African-Americans will do anything to not be a minority! The use of "they" instead of "their" is most annoying!
