Tiles Meet Pixels in Video Game Art

The pixel, a humble little square of on-screen color, is the building block for all the classic video-game characters ever made, whether they be stumpy like Mario, or curvaceous and less mustachioed like Lara Croft. If you think of video games as huge, sweeping mosaics of these miniscule little squares, then Dutch artist Arno Coenen's artwork doesn't seem so strange. Coenen uses tiles like the ones in your bathroom to craft amazing recreations of iconic video-game scenes and characters. We think they're pretty damned cool, and GeekSugar has a nice big gallery if you want to see more.
