Sony Execs Promise Turn-Around
It's been a rough couple years for Sony, but Chairman and CEO Howard Stringer isn't giving up, claiming good days are coming. Over the past year, Sony posted massive losses after lackluster PS3 sales and an expensive production process. Just last week, Ken Kutaragi, the so-called "Father of PlayStation," stepped aside after many years of success at the company. In that event's wake, Stringer is promising 380 new PS3 games by March of next year (200 retail games and 180 downloadable ones). He also claims the company will beat Apple when it comes to portable video players the way Apple has squarely beaten it for audio players.
Can they do it? Sony's President Ryoji Chubachi certainly thinks they can, claiming they'll post a $2.7 billion profit by the end of their current fiscal year. Given they posted a $563 million loss last quarter alone, that sounds a wee bit optimistic to us. Whatever happens, you know they can't be expecting much help from above.
