YouTube's Online Editing Tools

YouTube Gets Remixed

If there's one flaw in YouTube -- besides the fact that any idiot with a Web cam can share his every boring thought with the world -- it's that you can't really do anything with your videos after they've been uploaded. Sure, you can share them with friends and post them to your website, but if you wanted to tweak them you had to do it before uploading -- until now. YouTube has launched YouTube Remixer, a simple but reasonably powerful tool to let you edit your vids. It's basically a flash version of Adobe Premiere Express, enabling you to stitch together multiple videos, change their length, add music, even drop on titles and overlays.

The app is simple to use and quick to respond regardless of what kind of machine you're accessing it from, something that can't be said for most video editing programs. If there are any drawbacks it's that, at least as of now, you're not allowed to include other peoples' videos into your remixes, and you can't overwrite any of your existing videos with a remixed version. But, it is a great tool, and given this is just the first release, we're hopeful to find much more functionality coming from YouTube and Google
