iTunes Account Required for iPhone
We're closer still to the iPhone launch, so expect new nuggets of info coming every day between now and June 29, when it will finally go on sale. This morning's nugget relates to iTunes, Apple's online music and video distribution service. Apparently, iPhone users will need to sign up for an iTunes account to configure their new iPhones -- assuming they somehow managed to find one. Obviously, an iTunes account is no surprise if you were hoping to use your iPhone like an iPod (though Apple is hoping you'll remember the iPhone is more than just an iPod), but requiring an account just to use the thing seems a bit like Apple trying to artificially inflate its subscriber numbers. So WHAT? It's free and you don't HAVE to sign up for "reminders". So many people out there sign up for AOL free. What's the difference? Just more semi negative press to try and derail Apple, me thinks.
