I do not want this.
Misconceptions about LA. Interesting read, but kinda whiney. http://t.co/jEqHw3ts
The people responsible for this tremendous geographical oversight have been sacked.

I agree this should be banned Nationwide. How many out there are abiding by the law by not talking on their cellphones while driving? I DO NOT answer my cell while I drive. I have Onstar hands free. If someone wants to talk to me that bad, call the car. There are so many inconsiderate people out there driving while talking that they don't have a clue as to what is going on around them. For them to text....that would be a que for disaster. There are some that get mad with you if you blow your horn at them when they hold up traffic while they are talking. How many accidents could have been avoided if the person was not on the phone or texting? Some don't need to be driving in the first place because they can't do two things at the same time. I have been driving since I was 17. I am now 53. Some of the things I see in NY now, would make your head swim. Ban texting period,no questions asked. Nation Wide.

Hey Larry you need to have a wake up call. There are a lot of women out there that just happen to be better drivers than us guys. Believe it or not but my mother is the one who taught me how to drive 36 years ago. I in turn taught my sister. My wife of 26 years is a dam good driver. I CAN GO TO SLEEP WITH HER driving my car. Why? She is dam good. Some women do some things that are crazy but for you to say women are terrible drivers. I wonder who taught them how to do those things. Some guys don't deserve to be driving either, like reading the map and newspaper. Talking to your boy's on the cell or your wife or girl. We too are at fault with the way we do things while we drive. One thing with me is for sure, my wife gets on me about it ALL the time "Why didn't you have your phone on". I have it off so it will go to voicemail right away.I can check it later.

It astonishes me to think that it's come to the point where the government has to actually ban these things because of certain idiots who think nothing bad will happen just because. That's called the "Illusion of Immuninity" and like it's called, it's nothing more than an illusion. The Government put these laws into place because people don't care that they may be putting lives in danger all for the sake of their social lives. We have bathrooms to put on make-up, kitchens and break rooms to enjoy our meals, and non-moving seats for us to sit on and read the news, call and text people, and watch TV. It's not the Government's fault that they had to put these laws into effect, it's the people who don't have enough common sense to WAIT. And to all the people that have the misguided conception that all women and Asian Americans are bad drivers, that's an illusion too.

This is for Cindy: Cindy, do you ever FART in the car? I find that to be many times more dangerous than "TWD"...and lay off LAR because he "is" an idiot and just doesn't know any better.
Cindy says: "I live near Cleveland, OH and I see quite a show every morning"
(No wonder Cindy has so much time to respond to Larry...Cleveland...LOL)
Cindy says: There must be something about the name....Larry...my EX husband's name too!
(Larry..I now understand why this chick hates you so much)
Cindy says: Get a grip Lar, and don't repeat your rant out loud, you just might get a karate chop to the face and a stiletto up your *&%!
(Now this last one is a very profound statement)
Peace-Out

For all the comments about women and makeup, I was driving behind a man who was shaving while he was driving.
I believe everything should be lumped under being reckless, you can't just pinpoint cell phones. As another poster said, it's about paying attention.

Great post. thank you. My ex used to drink a coffee and a bagel, talk to his office with the financials in his lap AND smoke a cigarette.
On the other hand, where I live there are countless women on their cellphones driving SUV's such as Hummers - the poor cars have never set one tyre on off road terrain. A number of these machines sit outside my house whilst waiting for their kids to finish school. As the school bus stops, their children pile into the car whilst their mother is drinking the flavor of the day Starbucks whilst talking on her cellphone.
Before her kids have had a chance to put their seat belts on, she exits her parking spot without so much as an indicator light, and CONTINUES THE CONVERSATION UNTIL HER HUMMER FINISHES THE TIRING AND TROUBLESOME 200 YARDS THAT HER KIDS WOULD HAVE HAD TO WALK TO GET HOME.
I wish that we could use our common sense to solve it, but it won't happen and the law should therefore be passed. After all, a 15 year old can drive a car and have you and your family's life in their hands...can we not sacrifice a few moments to actually focus on driving?

Shame on you. You are the type that kill the innocent; too arrogant to know when common sense should kick in. Multi=tasking is irrelevant...I am absolutely horrified by your lack of care and concern for anyone except yourself. I hope you don't find out the hard way and urge you to stop 'multi tasking now

driving while yapping on a fucking cell phone is bad enough but texting while driving is insane
i love it when i see an accident when some asshole is yapping on his cell phone. i normally stop and call the jackass a fucking idiot and laugh in his or her face because they sure as hell were not paying attention to driving

I'm 17, and I've been around in different places with my friends in cars since I was about 14. Talking on the cell phone is pretty common, and not a huge hazard here since it's a small town and the roads aren't crowded. No matter how crowded the roads are or aren't, however, should anybody text in the car. Everybody has to look at the screen while texting, not usually the case while talking on the phone which you can simply flip open. Only once have I been in a car with somebody that texted while driving. It scared me so much I snatched the phone straight out of their hands. They were doing it on the highway! Yeah, I received an annoyed look from the driver, but that's a small price to pay for what could be my life on the line.

Scott Tarpley has a problem with spelling. Looks like he needs some schooling.

It should be banned for adults and teens. Because any distractions can endanger your life as well as the ones around you, plus it destroys the lives of the friends and family members left behind. It also destroys your life if you were the one texting and cause the accident where someone got seriously injured or death, because you would end up going to jail because you weren't paying attention to the road. Eyes and ears on the road because the life you may save is your own as well as those around you. Thank you think safe and be safe.
common sense rulesJun 20th 2007 8:54PM
It's amazing to me how some of us seem to want all these new laws resticting our freedoms. Enough already! We are on the road to losing all our freedoms. Unfortunately, we have too many people who only think of themselves and this is why we have so many problems. If we would only use common sense we wouldn't need people trying to take away all the freedoms our forefathers fought so hard to win for us. Seems to me idf your at fault for an accident, the reason does not matter. YOU are at fault! Take the responsibility. Whether it be lighting a cigarette or talking on a cell phone, you make the mistake, you pay the price. All these "mistakes" could fall under the reckless driving charge.
RayJun 20th 2007 8:55PM
Texting is just about as dumb as can be. I would agree with the one who says now cell phones in the car, by law, if that includes radios and CD players and two-way radios. Maybe the person who was texting and caused an accident should be charged with a felony with considerable jail time and maybe the loss of his license once he is released. If he kills someone, jail for life with no parole.
philJun 26th 2007 9:20AM
it's a law that can not be enforced. even in new york where it is already illegal there are people on their cellphones while driving all over the place.
jodieJun 20th 2007 9:01PM
Accidents are on the rise because of cell phone usage while driving, either texting or talking. Two points....1. Simple to prove..just check the phone bill against the time of accident. 2.
What the hell did everyone do when we didn't have this so-called convenience? I say stop texting and talking and wait till you get to your destination. Plain and simple...any distraction to driving increases the chance of an accident, especially on the crowded roads of today and now this is just an added distraction. Not only to the person doing it but to thenosey person pointing and driving and saying why is that dummy talking on the phone. Keep your eyes forward and watch the road. You will save your live and perhaps that of someone elses.
mikeJun 20th 2007 9:07PM
for one thing,as far as tv goes, its already a law.you can have a tv in your car as long that you cannot see it.and by the way,its not talking on the cell phone that causes accidents.i had a cell phone b4 and its not that hard to drive.its just that there are too many stupid people that cant do 2 things at once.
CharlesJun 20th 2007 9:24PM
HEY YOU'ALL ... I do agree absolutely regarding the drinking inside car. No matter what if "getting caught" with drinking ... even showing empty open can etc. HOWEVER, I don't agree one rule on cell phone and text phone on this matter EXCEPT do not fool around on these things (cell and text) -- the drivers HAVE THE RIGHT to check on phone for emergencies or any important messages come up. ONLY THAT.
That's why I don't agree with those WHIMPY AND CRYBABIES. I read one comment above in stating why one state banned text phone altogther regardless even NOT TOUCH it. I think it is wrong !!!! Those lawmakers in Wash state are real cry babies ... that person who cause that accident is just purely careless and doing stupid in doing "full time" act on texting WHILE driving. That's why they misunderstood. Texting or cell-ing are alright ONLY to check if anything important or emergency.
We need to be SMART-CAT like that. Just use common sense.
BE FREEDOM --- YEEE YEE HAWW HAWW.
tjJun 20th 2007 9:15PM
Larry, you're an idiot.
Enough said.
MikeJun 20th 2007 9:16PM
I agree that texting and talking on the phone may cause an accident. But I have a few question... How many accidents are cause by other distrations that no one talks about? For example: Messing with the radio while driving. Grabing something from the back seat while driving. Looking at the screen of your laptop while driving. Eating or drinking while driving. And some of you may laugh at this one, those that spank the children while driving. How many of you out there are guilty of any of these? They are all just as distracting as either talking on the phone or texting. Are they going to ban all those things? And if they do I don't know about you, but I'd be in big trouble. Because I love to listen to more then one station while eating fast food on the go........
