Dell Exits the HDTV Business
Dell's re-focusing efforts continue as the company seeks profitability in the increasingly low-margin business of selling discount computers. In addition to pairing up with Wal-Mart and offering Linux-based PCs, Dell is now rumored to be pulling out of the HDTV business, four years after jumping in with a line of LCD televisions.
The company always focused on manufacturing value-oriented sets that offered good quality at reasonable prices, just as it has with its popular line of LCD monitors for computers. It's not known at this time if Dell would exit the market because it hasn't been profitable, of if the company has simply decided to do what it does best: Computers.
Given that there's no shortage these days of discount HD sets on the market (we're partial to Vizios), it's unlikely anyone will be mourning over this news.
