iPhones Hitting eBay

Though AT&T isn't letting anyone pre-order the iPhone, there are plenty of folks who have set up shop on eBay claiming to guarantee delivery of the feverishly sought-after handset on the day of its release.

Bids on these questionable pre-order auctions are spiking upwards of $1,500, with auctioneers promising to have the phones in the mail to buyers on June 29. How exactly can they guarantee this? That part isn't clear. Some claim to work for AT&T, while we're guessing the rest will be camping outside of stores like everyone else and hoping for the best.

Regardless, these auctions are trouble. Just ask last year's winning bidders of "guaranteed" PS3 pre-order auctions who didn't receive their consoles until weeks or even months after launch. Bidders definitely beware.
