Text Messages Halt Chinese Construction
Score one for massive populations! The Chinese city of Xiamen has halted construction of a $1.4 billion chemical plant after residents fired off more than one million mobile phone text messages protesting the build. The complex, which was being built by Tenglong Aromatic PX (Xiamen) Co. Ltd, was set to produce the petrochemical, paraxylene, a substance used in the production of plastics, polyester and film. Exposure to paraxylene can cause eye, nose or throat irritation, and chronic exposure can affect the central nervous system and may even cause death.
Now if only there was a way to harness this power of the text-happy Chinese ... you could be the next American Idol!
