The First Hypoallergenic Car
For many, that "new car" smell is a precious thing -- it's a sad day when their formerly new ride stops giving off that fantastic plastic smell. Others think that smell is a carcinogenic and sinus-irritating nuisance that can't dissipate soon enough. For that latter group (and anyone with serious allergies), Ford has the car for you. Ford's Mondeo has been awarded the "Allergy Tested Interior" seal of approval by the German TÜV Rhineland group, an independent testing group.
The Mondeo interior was crafted of materials not likely to cause adverse reactions to sensitive types. This means the car uses no latex used in plastics, no nickel in the metals, and no smelly adhesives. It also utilizes filters in the climate control system to strip pollen and other allergen-inducing particles. It remains to be seen whether we'll find a Ford anti-allergy vehicle in the US, however -- the Mondeo is available only in Europe and Australia.
