Tech Tips for Looking Busy at Work
Use IM to Your AdvantageIn office environments that use instant messaging, workers are expected to be on call at a split-second's notice. Forget to toggle your away message on before going to the bathroom, and it's possible the FBI's Missing Persons Unit will be waiting for you when you return. But, a well-crafted, custom away message can also be a slacker's best friend. For example, who's going to know that, "Can't talk! Swamped!" is actually code for, "Leave me alone. I'm napping under my desk"?

Ok, people are taking this stuff way to seriously. And those who are genuinely upset, get a grip! Maybe the reason you can't get/keep a job or a job that pays or is satisfying is because you TAKE YOURSELVES TOO SERIOUSLY! It's all a joke. Laugh a little.
In the meantime, you can keep slogging away through the BS and I'll keep advancing in my chosen career. Cheers!

All to complicated for me. If we'er not looking busy boss gets worried. Just for thoses times after we've worked your butts off and have a little free time, we keep a box of papers near by to shread... It is relaxing and looks like your working.

I am a boss (I prefer 'business owner').
I've worked very hard to acquire my commercial properties. I really did work in the fields from the time I was nine years old. And then on to store clerk, janitor and numerous jobs while going through college.
I was a school teacher for a number of years.
What kind of person thinks they have the right to take the salary they agreed to be paid and then try to justify 'goofing off' because they think they are not getting paid enough? What a 'low life' - probably didn't have the good fortune of having a great parent to teach them work ethics.
As for me, my training by my mother took me from picking cotton to being more than a millionaire!
I applaud those of you who believe in work!
I have read some comments from those who will be the wellfare recipients of the future.....of course, they will probably be happy as long as they can goof off!

Now we know why most of our jobs are going to Mexico, China, and who knows where.

These "tips" are only for people who (1)work in offices and (2)don't really want to work. Here I am, holding three college degrees but working part-time at a Goodwill store. When you have something useful, put it up. If you are only going to put up fluff, then don't bother putting it up. Also, if anybody is really going to use these "tips", then let me know. I will gladly take your job.

Great article! Most of these made me laugh. the panic one would have been better if it didn't have that huge, red button attached to it. AOL always has great, real-life stuff like this to read. Keep it up guys. It gives me something to do at work!!!

This is really funny, and will be more funny to see people following their advice! Companies now (at least big companies) have Internet policies that you have to sign if you want to work there, and you are signing that they can check what you are doing in case of whatever happens. If you are going to be so "smart" then you have to be really "smart", you have to delete messages, and delete the deleted messages, and delete the deleted messages again. You have to delete cookies, delete the History, delete, delete, delete, so they don't find out what you have been doing. Really boring...

This is exactly why the dollar is devalued, and overseas technology is way ahead of the USA resulting in USA longstanding companies are closng down leaving thousands of workers in the welfare and unemployment line. This is a reason that outsourcing is so prevalent. Don't blame anyone but yourself, you twits.

I think you're taking the article too seriously... this was funny as I am sure it was meant to be.
There will always be hard workers and there will always be slackers - that's life. Bosses know which is which, with or without an article like this one.

It's funny to watch people get mad over something thats going to happen rather they agree with it or not. I'm more then certain that most people in here have slacked off at work during one period or the other in their lives yet you'd come into a forum that you TOTALLY are offended by and spill your heart out as if your mr/ms america...get over yourselves, and this was obviously mainly for laughs, or for people who can in someway, shape, or form just relate to it... turn off your computers and walkout side, take a breath of fresh air, and realize that no ones perfect
