The Web's Biggest Time Hogs

Online Porn

For some, Internet porn is like an illegal narcotic that you don't have to rob convenience stores to pay for. 'Net nakedness is anonymous, often free and easily accessible -- qualities that experts testifying before a 2004 Senate subcommittee claimed made online pornography more addictive than crack. And as anyone who's seen A&E's 'Intervention' knows, addictions can be quite time consuming.

The proof is in how much demand for porn is out there:

  • 12 percent of all Web sites are porn
  • 25 percent of all search engine requests are for porn
  • 35 percent of all Internet downloads are pornographic
  • Every second, 28,258 Internet users are viewing porn
  • $2.84 billion in revenue was generated from U.S. porn sites in 2006
  • 260 new porn sites go online daily
