Device for Tattling on Fellow Moviegoers
The program was launched last year in 13 Regal locations and has been so successful in improving customer behavior inside of theaters that it is now being deployed to a total of 114 locations. In the original program, tattletale customers were awarded a free bag of popcorn for their work as double agents, though there's no word from Regal if that will still be the case.
We're in love with this program. With people talking, cell phones ringing, babies crying and those idiots who think yelling at the actors could actually alter the course of the film's plot, the annoyances at the average theater-going-experience have become unbearable. Now if only there were a button for "This movie is garbage, I want my $10 back."

How do they know they aren't giving the devices to the people who are going to be creating the disturbances? How do they decide how to give them to? You can't always tell from looking at a person whether or not they are going to deliberately be a pain in the ass... even if you CAN tell most of the time. We wouldn't want to be acused of "profiling" anyone or discriminating against a person because of their lack of respect for others.

Let's not forget the old folks (I'm a 72 yr. old folk) who act like they are home watching television. Recently, I was watching a serious film about the Dutch resistance during WW II, The Black Book, and a group of oldsters were having a jolly, loud time.

WELL NOW, I AS AN AMERICAN AM ASHAMED OF YOU SNIVELING, PATHETIC, WHINERS WHO ARE SO QUICK TO APPLAUD EUROPE AND "BEG" THEM TO LET YOU STAY. I ALSO WISH YOU WOULD STAY OVER THERE AS ANYONE PLACES THE TRIVIAL MATTER OF MOVIE BEHAVIOR OVER NATIONAL PRIDE AND IDENTITY DO A DIS-SERVICE TO ALL OF THE REAL AMERICANS WHO GAVE YOU THE RIGHTS AND ABILITY TO BE SUCH LOSERS IN THE FIRST PLACE. GO BACK TO EUROPE AND ENJOY THE WONDERFUL MOVIES AND STANDARD OF LIVING THEY CAN PROVIDE YOU. YOU MAKE ME SICK!!

OMG!! I love it. My husband and I went twice this past week to the movies and I got mad both times. Kids running and playing on the aisle steps, screaming, teenagers talking in their normal voice, cell phones. Damn--why do people go to the movies for anyway if they want to do all that--just stay the heck home and watch TV. Not to mention the people who get up and down a dozen times and go who knows where. I hadnt been to the movies in a long time and that was the reason why. I really wanted to see these movies and I took a chance just to be reminded all over again. Hell I'm mad now just talking about it. hahahaah

Joe Barton says:
I agree that we need a way to keep theatre loud mouths quiet, but also think if you love Europe so much go back there and stay. We don't need Americans with your "we love Europe better attitude" See ya...love it or leave it.

Happily. I'd rather be an EX-American European than have to deal with people like you on a daily basis...
Sincerely,
Skvaddernosse (and for those of you who understand that word, you know that is exactly what Joe Barton really is!! LOL!!)

To those of you that think that Americans are so ignorant and boorish..if you're too embarrassed to let people know that you're an American........LEAVE! oh, and don't bother to come back when you realize what you're missing!
jackMay 30th 2007 7:50PM
I completely agree that Americans in general are much ruder then our European conterparts. I have not attended a movie in over 6 years because it is unbearable. I patiently wait for the flick to come out on DVD. Also to the person who commented,"America love it or leave", could you possibly be more juvenile. The right to be critical of things that are wrong in this country is what makes us the best country in the world.
JuliaMay 30th 2007 10:23PM
I used to feel that I was missing out on the "big screen" experience by waiting until a movie came out on DVD, but no more. The rude behavior of adults, teens, and children has rendered a trip to the movies an ordeal. Give me my comfortable chair, big screen TV and the company of my well-mannered husband and kids any day. Sadly, this is just a symptom of the rudeness most of us live with in many aspects of our lives. The only thing we can do about all this is to be polite and considerate to others, and teach our children to do the same.

Hey Ron B., two things you can go back to...#1 is school. Did you ever do your homework. Finally is not spelled finaly. Americans is capitalized. And you wanted to say,"...there they were, not there they where." #2 is go anywhere than here in the USA if you're so unhappy. No place is perfect just like I have had good and bad experiences in a movie theatre, mostly good. But, I have no problem with a way to enjoy the movie when ignorant people make to much noise or try to illegally tape movies. But, Ron B., looks like you've got much bigger problems than noise in a movie theatre! USA Love it or Leave it...even if it ain't perfect.

I love those people who are so thin-skinnen about anyone saying anything bad about Americans. I'm an American, and I love the ideals my country is founded on, but there are things that other countries can do better than we do....polite movie watching being one of them.
John WiedmanMay 31st 2007 12:06PM
I hate to inform Ron B. but Americans by no means have a franchise on rudeness. Went to a theater while in Toronto a few years ago..small, probably only sat about 30-40. Right in the middle of the show cell phone rings and heard muffled conversation in French for the next 5 minutes or more. And, in fairness to the much maligned youth, this was a man probably in his forties.

I have three small children who are 6,5,& 4. I can take my children to a movie and they are silent and still like statues the entire time, my children are obcessed with Pirates of the Caribbean; we took them opening night here, and my 6 year old (Autistic) son turned to the boys behind us who were in their teens and said he was going to tell their mommy if they didn't be quiet in a very hushed whisper. I really think it is totally prejudiced for people to say it is the young children that make all the noise. It is a majority the teenagers. Since I have young children there are a limited number of theaters I can go to (as most around here have banned kids from movies rated over G)Please don't add to the hype all small children are bad. :) There are some very good ones out there.
