Device for Tattling on Fellow Moviegoers
The program was launched last year in 13 Regal locations and has been so successful in improving customer behavior inside of theaters that it is now being deployed to a total of 114 locations. In the original program, tattletale customers were awarded a free bag of popcorn for their work as double agents, though there's no word from Regal if that will still be the case.
We're in love with this program. With people talking, cell phones ringing, babies crying and those idiots who think yelling at the actors could actually alter the course of the film's plot, the annoyances at the average theater-going-experience have become unbearable. Now if only there were a button for "This movie is garbage, I want my $10 back."

Joe Barton says:
I agree that we need a way to keep theatre loud mouths quiet, but also think if you love Europe so much go back there and stay. We don't need Americans with your "we love Europe better attitude" See ya...love it or leave it.

Happily. I'd rather be an EX-American European than have to deal with people like you on a daily basis...
Sincerely,
Skvaddernosse (and for those of you who understand that word, you know that is exactly what Joe Barton really is!! LOL!!)
Skvaddernosse, by insulting Americans, you insult yourself, which makes you an idiot. Now I can add you to my compilation of idiots.

Great! About time. I don't go to the movies anymore, because of rude, boorish people who eat like they are at a pig trough. Cell phone text msgs, and who brings a baby to the a movie anyways? Geez, and I get to pay for all this "entertainment". I am glad someone is taking action.
Just my opinion~

good finaly somebody does something about these
obnoxious people called americans. I just came back from Europe and watched the people's behavior overthere, also in the movies. I was
astounding how classy and well behaved they are.
Than I sat in the airport lounge waiting for my US flight, there they where, the obnoxious americans and their screaming kids and there loud mouth behavior. NOW i know why we are HATED. we are all in love with ourselfs with NO regards for OTHERS. shame on all of us

Big Brother is watching us and this is playing right into his hands, like video cameras at traffic lights and tracking devices in purchases and automobiles. We are being treated like mindless robots. I personally don't like it.

YES!! After just having gone to a movie where the "gentleman" in front of me had pretty much text-messaged through out the entire Pirates 3, I was thrilled to see that someone was taking action against these inconsiderate people. I will most certainly give all my hard earned movie dollars to Regal Entertainment if they can make my movie watching experience a better one. Thank you!!!!

The last time the wife and I attended a movie, we too were surrounded by cell-phone tenny-boppers who kept texting other people that weren't there, and made obnoxious sounds like fake burps, and laughing about it. Finally my wife turned around and made the "SHHHHH" noise to make them quiet down, but it did not stop them completely. I truly wish I was in England where they are much more polite and mature. I plan on going back again to England this summer, and I am going to beg them to let me stay there. I am too ashamed of this country to ever want to acknowledge to anyone that I am a U.S. citizen.

i don't need that. i go to movie theaters (there's one that doesn't show G or PG rated movies to keep unruly kids and their absentee parents out) and at times where the other patrons are just like me: they want to see the movie sans your average disturbances. of course, this tends to mean a lot of late night showings but i live in a pretty big city so i have that option. but i'm sure this will work for ppl who don't.

Do they have anything to stop people from putting their feet on the back of your chair and/or kicking it, or while they try to stand up by pulling your chair backwards and grab your hair as they gain leverage?
DeanMay 30th 2007 3:20PM
It's about time, with the price of tickets these days! I go to the movies to watch the movies, unlike people who think it's a social event. Who cares if big brother is waiting over us? Doesn't he have anything better to do than watch ordinary people who have nothing to hide? It's those that do have something to hide you have to look out for! Do it at home, not the theater!

WOW!!! SUCH GREAT NEWS! Hey Regal...keep your popcorn! I'd do it for FREE! I cannot STAND the obnoxious people that go to movies nowadays, and its a miracle I don't get into fist fights at the movies! Why can't people understand that they are ruining the experience for others at the theatre and that its just NOT ok!
GIVE ME ONE REGAL!

Actually, I find that the adults are much more irritating than the youn ones (ages 9-12). We took two of our kids to see a movie last Saturday, and the adutls in front and behind us were so loud that my 12 year old daughter turned around and asked them to be quite!! One rude fool stayed on his cell, which thankfully I did not have to hear, but the light was very irritating. Not one theatre employee came in, we had to go find them. If I am going to spend $100.00 to see a movie (that includes snacks), I want to actually see and HEAR the movie, not a bunch of idiots around me!!!

I can't wait til this device reaches the theaters I go to. I have to travel over at least an hour from where I live just to watch a movie and it usually turns out to be a huge disappointment due to the audience being complete jerks. Example; two weeks ago I take my two kids(well mannered btw) to watch Spidey 3 and some teens in front of us talking and laughing through the whole movie while texting with their phones...I finally tell them, "shhhhh" and one of them flips the bird and the other one says, "you shhhhh, mother bleepity bleep bleep." I'm more ashamed at the parents nowadays that drop their kids off at the movies like it's a daycare and not teach them proper manners. Maybe they'll make tazer guns legal in movie theaters someday...now there's a thought!

Will this include those inconsiderate jerks who struggle to read a text message on their cell phones during a movie and hold their phones up high so the lit screen is flashing in my face?

Will this include those inconsiderate people who struggle to read text messages on their cell phones during a movie? They always hold their lit flashing phones in my face!
JakeMay 30th 2007 3:55PM
I agree with Joe, not all Americans, and Teens, (which I am both), are loud mouths. Maybe I will make a joke once in a blue moon, but its a small one that my friends and I may just snicker at and not crack up laughing. (unless the movie's hilarious) And if one of my friends arebeing rude I will tell them to be quiet and they'll listen too. Plus, I see no nead in talking on the phone, or texting, during movies, so I never use mine when watching a movie.
kwsshMay 30th 2007 3:58PM
Of course, they could just have what they used to have: a person who actually patrols the various theatres to make sure people are not unruly, breaking any rules, littering in the aisle, etc.
Jane HowardMay 30th 2007 4:00PM
I was once in a Regal theater (for a late-night showing) and some ass behind me kept talking on his phone. I asked him to stop and he said, "I pay for it, it's my phone." Two trips to the front counter didn't help because when those little teen-age ushers come in, the offenders stop, not to mention the fact the kids are too chicken to do anything anyway. The following day I called the manager and left a complaint. I got two free tickets sent to me for future movies.
Frankly, I doubt the efficacy of this device, because unless the employees actually DO something, it will do no good to hit a button. What theaters really need to do is install jamming devices so idiots can't get a signal.
LiebshellMay 30th 2007 4:03PM
YES!!!!! Hey National Amusements theaters (Randolph, Ma) you need to get this program!!! My Fiance' and I used to like going to the late movies, or the weekday matinee's, they used to me obnoxious people free but over the last year, we've noticed more inconsiderate jerks during this time. Last time we went to see a flick two theater hoppers came into the theater in the middle of the flick, laughing over their phones to their friends about the movie... we got the theater employees three of them came walked to the back of the theater but the guys saw them so they were quiet for the 3 minutes the employees stayed. Then they got loud again and then left for another movie. But the best way we've found to not have to deal with all that aggrevation is just going to the Drive In. In our own car we don't hear anyone be obnoxious in their's.
Colin CodyMay 30th 2007 4:19PM
I have been a professional actor for 40 years, but I no longer go to movie theatres because of the rude, noisy patrons, generally poor quality movies and vastly overpriced tickets. It's a suckers' game and I don't play it. I watch the excellent shows on TV like NCIS and Boston Legal, and I read many nonfiction books from my world-class library to great advantage. Many movie theatres have already closed all across the nation and many more will close in future because of revenue shortfall due to the problems already cited.
