I presume the "tub of sticks" that Bob asked about are the shiny brass tubs of "fatwood fireplace starter" sticks that are often sold seasonably and usually remain parked in a prominent position near the fireplace for the remainder of the year.

What is tacky is the silver stand that somehow stumbled into the picture. Put it on a deep red cherry or mahogany stand and you may have something.
