'Halo 3' Beta Delayed, Extended

Yesterday was the day that thousands of 'Halo' fans had been eagerly awaiting: the launch of the 'Halo 3' online beta (a pre-release version for testing), which had been made available to gamers who'd purchased another game called 'Crackdown' earlier in the year. Many skipped school or work to have the entire day free to play, only to find themselves unable to start the download. Developer Bungie put a notice online yesterday morning at 5:00 AM PST stating that it was aware of the problem. However, it wasn't until just after 7:00 PM that Bungie came back on and announced the problem was fixed.

Though the company hasn't explained exactly what the problem was, Bungie is hoping to make nice with scorned fans by extending the beta by four full days to Sunday June 10 at 11:59 PM PST. This gives gamers another full weekend to spend with their precious, precious 'Halo 3,' which is said to be the final chapter in the blockbuster series.

Any more hiccups like this and we're going to have to start cutting into those bereavement days.
