Rumor: PS3 Going to Version 2.0

Rumor: PS3 Going to Version 2.0PlayStation 3 (PS3) has seen a number of firmware updates since its release last fall, the most recent being version 1.7 back in mid-April, which added Dual-Shock support to PS2 games when played with the old PS2 controller, as well as the ability to play the original PS1 games that you'd downloaded to your PSP.

Now, it seems Sony is nearly ready to make the leap to version 2.0. A recent press release inadvertently posted to Sony's press site (and very quickly pulled down) announced dozens and dozens of changes and enhancements.

Most of the leaked updates surround audio and video playback. For example, you'll be able to update track info for music stored on the unit, and the addition of a new equalizer will let you tweak sound output settings. Also reported to be coming are an RSS reader for tracking your favorite sites' feeds and some better security-by-password to protect user accounts.

Again, all of this is just speculation at this point with no time frame as to when, if ever, this update will materialize.
