Gaming This Weekend 5.4.07

Spider-Man 3
This was a slow week for new game releases, most likely due to the arrival of a web-slinging leotarded teen in 'Spider Man 3'. When such a highly-anticipated game-and-movie combo like 'Spider Man 3' comes out, competitors tend to hide under rocks for at least weeks. Despite that, we uncovered a few things you can check out this weekend. Some are newer than others, but have no fear -- your weekend is looking good.

'Spider Man 3'
Just in time for the movie release, the newest 'Spider Man' movie-game tie-in, 'Spider Man 3: The Game,' comes out for virtually all consoles. Of course, each version is slightly different. The PS3 version sports some SIXAXIS motion control and the Wii gets some Wii Remote control extras (albeit without the oh-so pretty graphics). Unfortunately, the early reviews for this title aren't stellar, but Spidey fans should be sufficiently pleased.

'Catan' on Xbox Live Arcade
Board gamers rejoiced this week when Microsoft offered 'Catan' for download from Xbox Live Arcade. This game, based on the board game 'Settlers of Catan', allows players to battle for island resources online or against computer-controlled opponents. It's heavily strategy-oriented, turn-based and immensely fun for those who like board games -- your inner nerd will love you for this one. It will run you 800 Live Points, or about $10.

360 Elite
Speaking of the Xbox 360, the 360 Elite finally came out last weekend. This bigger, badder, darker version of the 360 sports HDMI and a download-friendly 120 gigabyte hard drive. If you're looking for an upgrade (or just looking for a new console), this $479 premium version of the Xbox 360 just might be the bad boy you're looking for.

'Virtua Tennis 3'
We're a bit late to this party, but after finally having some time to sit down with 'Virtua Tennis 3' this week, we're hooked. With an addictive World Tour mode, accurate player models, online play and fantastic graphics, tennis players (and even non-tennis players) should check out this title (for Xbox 360 and PS3) as soon as possible.
