Phones
As most of us red-blooded Americans know by now, the best way to get that new cell phone you've been lusting after is usually by signing up for a new plan or extending your current one. The Internet has the answer, as usual: Several websites track this kind of thing, and help you sort your way to your preferred phone on your preferred carrier for your preferred price of absolutely nothing. I need a good plan for my son. He is in the Army and going to Korea. We were told to wait til he gets there and then get him a phone.
What about us? Is there a plan that we can use? I have USCell right now.

Wirefly is a ripoff when it comes to rebating the cost of the phone. If you're lucky you might get your rebate but it will take almost a year to get it. Plus they give you so many tricky conditions to follow that anyone can see they're obviously hoping you'll fail to follow one of them... i.e. rebates can only be sent during a certain time frame, packaged in a certain way. And their rebate company has more excuses than a politician on why your rebate hasn't been processed yet. If you inquire you'll possibly get a reply stating "in process... allow another 3 weeks". Took me just about a year to obtain a rebate. Nice way to keep your money. Oh yeah... you pay for the phone up front and THEN get the cost rebated. HAH !!!! Many complaints have been lodged against this outfit but they still seem to be in business.

When I am in the market for a new cell phone, I go to amazon.com and check out their deals. I was able to get a blackberry for $50, but I would have gotten it for free had I printed out the rebate form. I had to sign a 2 year contract and you can't take your old number with you but the deals they offer are amazing. You can also see the user ratings and comments on cell phones to see which ones have the most glitches.

Yeah Sprint does the same thing as what Paul was talking about with rebates. Are there really any good affordable cell phone companies out there who don't rip you off. Sprint has more conditions than a little bit for rebates, hell I been waiting for mine for 7 months. cingular overcharges and you constantly have to watch your bill, and Verizon requires next to perfect credit or you need a nice down payment. And with health bills and all when you get a little older who can afford it all?

I bought 2 Motorola V330 from T-Mobile. I mailed in the original UPCs, the receipts and the rebate forms. They said I didn't send in the UPCs. I disputed it, but apparently they just threw them out so they didn't have to pay. I can't prove I sent them. I lost $100!

i get my phones on ebay. ebay is a great place to get car chargers and leather cases they are only about $5 shipped you can find phones on there for like $30 and up

One thing to never forget to do is make a copy of everything you send in for a rebate. Then you have proof of what was mailed if they come back try to state you didn't send everything in for the phone rebate
MichaelMay 17th 2007 9:38AM
Even making a copy of the UPC isn't proof that you sent it in, and that's exactly what they will tell you. I know.
Verizon hooked me up with two LG phones for free, that have cameras, mp3 players, etc. We signed up for a two year contract, but it was well worth it, the phones are great, and our service has been also.

i agree with sara i had tthe same thing happen to me with t-mobile. I did everything they told me to do then i made sure i folded the upc from the box inside the print out that i got from them and they said i didnt send the upc. I was then told it could have fallen on the floor it was a thick piece of card board. I then askled how did that fall out and no one see it they replied i dont know.

I have to admit that I was pretty pleased with cingular when I got a new plan and yup a *FREE* pretty fly phone and best of all, I had to the option to get a 1-year contract not 2 yrs which worked out perfectly for me plus Cingular gives student discounts as well!

Verizon problems? Like I am having recently. Seek out www.verizonpathetic.com. This is where the CEO's address is.

Sprint tried to tell me they were signing me up for a new 2-year contract when I changed my family plan to a single user plan...no new phone, nothing...just a different plan. When I told them to drop me as a customer, they quickly changed their mind!
JeanaMay 17th 2007 12:32PM
Just another note on the rebate problems, and this applies to everything I send in for a rebate or service etc.....
Send the rebate paperwork in any of the options
given to you by the postal service where the receiver has to SIGN for the envelope. Then they can't say they "never got it". Learned the hard way. Oh and make copies of EVERYTHING you send.
RayMay 17th 2007 12:38PM
You have to watch these cell phone companies very closely. They do all they can to rip you off. I have had bad experiences with two of them and they just plain don't care. I got away from them and went with TracPhone. It cost less in the long run because you don't have these big monthly payments, plus taxes, etc. to make and you can add minutes whenever you want plus you can stop and start their service whenever you want if you run into a money crunch.
walterMay 17th 2007 12:50PM
I went to tracfone as a cheaper way to have my service. I am able to call the UK and it doesn't cost me an arm and a leg. I know for a fact the other service providers are ripoffs.
SarahMay 17th 2007 1:06PM
This only applies to anyone from the southeast. Cellular South is the best phone company around here. It has the best offers, including unlimited ingoing and outgoing calls for only $50 a month, with 700 Nationwide minutes also. You get your phone rebates in only 6-8 weeks. And, as far as service coverage, it beats out cingular, sprint, and verizon.
AnthonyMay 17th 2007 1:10PM
I just got two free Razr V3t phones from Wirefly on a two year contract deal with T-Mobile, about 1 month ago. Got two $50 rebates to mail in on them also. I followed the directions, and I got both rebates back in just outside of three weeks.
Maybe they have upgraded their services, because I had no problems.

What is the least expensive way to have a cellphone? I have 1600 minutes and free minutes on weekends and afer 9pm on weekdays. I pay about 60 bucks for this all. I don't use that many minutes and can only afford to pay 20 or 30 bucks a month but need about 400 to 500 minutes a month and free weekends. Anyone know of any good cellphone companies with these rates?
Thanks~
