Adoption Via MySpace
MySpace is great for getting you connected with other people for a variety of purposes, some good, some not so much. You can add adoption to the "good" list: It turns out a couple in Michigan is actually using the service to find a little girl to adopt. Sherry and Karl Dittmar, of Taylor, Michigan, hope that by tapping into MySpace's huge volume of people, they'll find some Web-savvy mother-to-be with an unwanted pregnancy. With well over 100 million (mostly young) users registered, MySpace is probably a great place to find a mother. The Dittmars haven't found their little girl yet, but they have received 1,700 messages already -- far more than your average MySpace newbie receives when he or she starts looking for someone to love.
