How to Recycle Dead Gadgets

Heavy metal? Good. Toxic heavy metal? Bad. Unfortunately, batteries have too much of the latter. Dropping off the little guys (as well as larger, recyclable phone and laptop batteries) is as easy as visiting earth911.org or rbrc.org/call2recycle and finding a collection site nearest you. In fact, as of last December, recycling those larger ones has been the law in New York.

Where I live Lowes has a recycle box for rechargeable batteries. They even take batteries for rechargeable tools. Circuit City I think takes rechargeable electronic batteries D,C, AA, AAA, camera, and etc. Library has a box at front door for all non rechargeable batteries

PetsMart stores have postage-paid envelopes for people to send in their old cell phones and dead printer ink cartriges. They use the proceeds to help homeless animals.

Call your local Girl Scout council (www.gsusa.org) and see if they have a recycling program. Then, the money will go to the Girl Scouts rather than Staples. Every little bit helps. Thanks.
