It is clear though, that Kim Bassinger has made sure that her daughter is not able to receive Alec's phone call, because I doubt very much that the daughter herself avoids being present for the calls. It sounds to me like Kim is manipulating Alec so that she can stop his visitation rights.
But it is true that he himself should have realized that, and not blamed the child, but blamed the mother.
His loss of self control at the child, even if it was manipulated by Kim, indicates a certain emotional immaturity. His obvious frustration at his situation has taken hold of his rational self and caused him to humiliate himself on a phone message that most people know can be shared.
